I really can see the shadows of 3 songs in GOYB:

01) Vertigo - not because it sounds the same, it's so different, but the 'idea' is the same, the 1st 'hard rock punch" single... but vertigo is a demo by a garage band next to GOYB

02) Fast Cars - GOYB got some 'arabic" vibe, but in a weird way, which is awesome

03) DISCOTHEQUE - I know, some of you will call me crazy, but I really can see echoes of that "nasty" guitar from discotheque in GOYB, I'm 110% sure of that.

Someone agree with me ?

Completely, I hear it all.
Very accurate description.

I think it's their best and most interesting debut single since Numb. Say what you will about Numb, it raised the level of intrigue, even if it wasn't the best song on the album. As long as the video isn't a complete joke, GOYB may do the same...

Can anyone explain what the words "Sexy Boots" have anything to do with the lyrics?

Is it that Bono wants to put away humanitarian efforts for a minute and go shopping at the mall?

I think it's probably an effort of asking the question can talk about politics be sexy? Can the two mix...

Hurrah!! I finally heard it at lunchtime at work. :D All was silent while I was concentrating listening to it. Have heard it twice now WOOHOO!!

I love the way it just hits your ears, like WHOA!! I thought it was instantly catchy. Love the rockiness/ POP vibe - love it!! I think its gonna be a grower for a lot of people. Love the drums and guitar- sounds even better turned up really loud!!:applaud:

i think its cool, and a grower, but not sure about quick-fire mainstream appeal. a good thing?

as for content/meaning, i think it could be alternatively titled, "Burn Your Burka (Go Muslim Kids, Go!)"

My real concern is how Bono seems to have run out of new things to say. The concept behind it reminds me too much of Miss Sarajevo.

Right on. This is exactly what I was thinking.

Very very interesting new U2 single ! i like it.
i do have to say, i had to listen to it for a few times before i "realy" heard the song.
i can't wait to hear the rest of the album.

Last post on this for me:

In the first 15 seconds, imagine a radio voice over guy saying this in an obnoxious voice:

"HEY SNOWBOARDERS!!!! COME DOWN TO SHANE'S HOUSE OF SNOWBOARDS THIS SATURDAY FOR A BIG SALE..sale...sale...ON EVERYTHING SNOWBOARD!!!!!"

:cute:

My favorite part of the song is at the two and a half minute mark....

Larry's drums change sequence, and the Edge throw's down some notes that take me back to Achtung Baby....For a second, I hear Rage Against The Machine?

This song in amazing!

I love everything about it, especially the lack of a conventional chorus and the pro forma big stadium hook that defined Vertigo. This thing is far more challenging and rewarding. I was excited for the record before, but now I am losing my shit! LEAK LEAK LEAK! This is what I wanted Bomb to sound like, dense, electro, complex, progressive.

However, I doubt that this can be the kind of world conquering hit that Vertigo was. It's simply too good. People like simple, easy things, and a song like this without the easy chorus, is going to be a tough sell.

To which I say, good. U2 needs to spend an album making people scratch their heads. They need to challenge, they've spent ten years resting on their laurels (awesome, well earned laurels to be sure) and they needed to go out there and really swing for the fences.

And to me this is the perfect, artistic home run.

Yeah, after listening to the 5th time...the only part I like is:

"Let me in the sound
Let me in the sound
Let me in the sound, sound
Let me in the sound, sound
Meet me in the sound"

Awesome

The rest...I just can't get over "Sexy Boots"...I THOUGHT YOU GUYS WERE JOKING! I DIDN'T KNOW IT WAS GOING TO BE IN THE ACTUAL SONG!

I love the Sexy Boots part!! The part I could live without is the:

You don’t know how beautiful
You don’t know how beautiful you are
You don’t know, and you don’t get it, do you?
You don’t know how beautiful you are

If I had to rate the different parts for me it would be:

1) the verses, my favorite part

2) The Sexy Boots, GOYB parts

3) The Let me in the sound
Let me in the sound
Let me in the sound, sound
Let me in the sound, sound
Meet me in the sound

4) You don’t know how beautiful
You don’t know how beautiful you are
You don’t know, and you don’t get it, do you?
You don’t know how beautiful you are

LOVED the last maybe 45 seconds of the song when it shifts into a Led Zep/Beastie Boys style drum beat. Up until that part it was a little annoying actually. Bono was at too high of a key for him to sound good on the verses, but chorus was ok. I don't get the excitement with this track and I'm just as big a U2 fan as everyone here.

This song is going to sound completely different live without all of the extra layers.....wonder what a stripped down version will sound like. I guess we'll soon find out at the Brit Awards.

I love itttt!! :applaud:
but I agree with the people that say "it will not be so successful single as Vertigo". It is not so easy song, it needs time to grow (so far 2 friends have listened to it, and didnt find it good). But not better single doesnt mean that it isnt a better and more complex song. Lyrics are better, production is better,... and it is a grower!!!
