Ehm, hard to recall. Not really I think. But to fuel the speculations: Bono was jamming on his accoustic guitar after he played the clips, so some songs might still be in the songwriting process.

They might be creating some last minute songs after completion of the album just like Chris Martin did on Viva la Vida. U2 work all the way to the end like on POP until they have to send it off. It might even be a b-side or for a future album.

Though this is late in the game, but not quite too late. Mid November is 3 months away.

Will Mercy be on the new album? Who knows now? Bono said bands should break up over song inclusion and song order.

I want to hear the song that had the larrystuff clip in it. That sounded promising.

Most U2 albums do. Come with me, and let's take a trip through U2's history, beginning with...

1983 - War ("Refugee")
1984 - The Unforgettable Fire ("Elvis Presley and America" ...I guess...?)
1987 - The Joshua Tree ("Trip Through Your Wires")
1988 - Rattle & Hum ("When Love Comes to Town")
1991 - Achtung Baby ("Tryin' to Throw Your Arms Around the World")
1993 - Zooropa ("Some Days are Better Than Others" ...I guess...?)
1995 - Passengers ("Elvis Ate America")
1997 - POP ("The Playboy Mansion")
2000 - All That You Can't Leave Behind ("When I Look at the World")*
2004 - How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb ("A Man and a Woman")
2008 - No Line on the Horizon ("Whatever the hell this song is")

So that concludes our journey. Now, there are a couple of good songs listed above, I just happened to pick the ones that mostly fit the bill... and left out U2's first two releases because "Boy" is doing its own thing and I love it for that, and haven't listened to "October" in a looooong while. Hope you enjoyed the ride!

*nah, just kidding. it's "Wild Honey" :p

True just switch Playboy mansion for Miami and A man and a woman for Yahweh. Elevation could be a candidate for ATYCLB's weakest link too.

October - Is that all
Boy - Shadows and tall trees...?

ok, now i heard it on better speakers. i think it sounds like a fun song. could have a lot of soul to it.

don't know if anyone mentioned yet but the end bit of clip 5 has elements from beach clip thankyou from 2006.

I haven't heard this fifth clip yet, but if the Ultra Violet (Brazil forum) clips are anything to go by this might be Moment Of Surrender?

Their clip of what is claimed to be said song (although it's almost impossible to hear anything from that recording) contains some piano-like noises that sounded like the short instrumental part before the last chorus from the 2006 Eze clip 403.I immediately thought of that section when I heard it.

I just wonder what you mean by "elements" to be a little more precise? :hmm:

the "baby baby baby" part is somewhat cringe-worthy, though i hope it works in the context of the song...hard to tell with the audio quality.

but it sounds like another "Stuck in a Moment..." if this is Moment of Surrender, it would be a little disappointing

Hmmm, I really cannot make out much in this song, but I hear clearly "I will see you on the other side". Apart from that, it's just waves and much muffled sound. Doesn't sound very interesting to me so far, especially compared to the other clips.

Btw, I hear a little Bono falsetto in clip no. 5.

The song seems to be very short. I must say that I really like the last part and the ending. The "baby baby baby" is nice, too. The rest is not so exciting. Maybe it will be better on the album, if it's on the album. I think we can now begin the title speculations for this clip.

OK, you won't find bigger 'Stuck In A Moment' "hater" than me, belive me.
... and this clip sounds nothing like "another SIAM"!

Yep, it sure doesn't.

Seems to me that Stuck In A Moment has become a catchall for "shitty, overproduced ballad". You couldn't find a U2 song that more accurately fits that description, but I would like to encourage everyone to use their heads and come up with better ways to describe a song than comparing it to something else. That doesn't really work for a band with a catalogue as varied as U2's anyway.

Are you a fan of Achtung Baby?

if so "baby, baby, baby, light my way", enough said really

i think this clip only shows that the album will be pretty weak as a whole. i'm not sure U2 has it in them anymore.

I actually don't mind if it's the One Step Closer of the album. I'm expecting ATYCLB quality this time around, nothing more (what I'm saying is mid-level).

I'm always surprised when I see folks with 6000 posts who don't seem to like 40-something U2. Is it the love from the previous albums that keeps you going on here or the hope for a rebirth? I'm honestly interested. I gave up on some of the bands who started to suck in my ears.

Like what I am hearing so far. I'm not the biggest fan of U2's last 2 albums but these sound like it could be some of the best music from them for years. Also sounds like there is some good guitar solos on them from what I can hear. Edge really does sound like "he is on fire" on this one.:applaud:

Personally i really still think we need to hear the songs properly before judging,

but IMO, there is an energy to these songs, an energy i havent seen from the band for quite some time (and yes i do love HTDAAB)

they just sound "different" to what U2 have done before

Yeah my thoughts exactly. Energy is the key word here and rawness, or could that be me getting confused with the waves!

I'm pretty sure the guy who recorded the clips said that none of these were Moment of Surrender.

to expand upon this, I also hope that there are no clips of Moment of Surrender leaked. if it really is the best song U2 have done with Lanois/Eno, then I'd like it to be one of the songs that isn't leaked at all. ala One Step Closer etc., from last album- only a couple weren't leaked I think.

To my recollection, the following were leaked via beach clips:

1. Vertigo
2. Miracle Drug
3. Love And Peace Or Else
4. All Because Of You

Can't remember any others offhand.

I still think Moment of Surrender could be beach clip 404 from 2006, considering Bono sings the "moment I'm in" or the "moment I live" many times during the song. And, after hearing these latest Beach clips I actually think the 2006 clips wouldn't be out of place on this album. I think 402 and 404 could both fit.

And, I agree with the other posters who say a chunk "Thank you" is used in clip five ... more evidence that parts of the 2006 clips, or even the entire songs, could make their way onto this album.

I believe City of Blinding lights was leaked from some UK performance that was being taped. Some really crappy quality version of it. That and All Because of you from there.

After listening to clip 5 twice, it's definitely NOT "One Step Closer" or anything. I definitely get the Beatles and Beach Boys comparisons, but it doesn't sound like it'll be anything like "Window in the Skies" -- definitely less cheese involved here unless the lyrics turn out to be crappy. It doesn't sound very boring to me, either. It's certainly a quieter, calmer song than the others we've heard, but from the sound of it I think it would make a pretty nice album closer.

These beach clips have still yet to disappoint me, though I'm definitely still guarded on how much of a departure this album will be. Looking forward to finding out for myself though.

but...listen carefully...you should not dislike the album just because it isn't a "departure" !!!!

I bet this album will debut at #1 and then quickly fall off the charts. They will embark on a tour for it that will be recieved with mix reviews.... and in the end it will be an album that purists and doubters love while a majority of the people here will hate, ala POP #2.

i agree with that except for the public assessment. I think it will be universally hailed, again.

Yeah, I remember that gig. I didn't count it because it was a live performance, not voyeuristic eavesdropping.
