Rock and roll hall of fame

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
Here is the updated link, you have to vote to see the totals but it still seems like journey, Pearl Jam, elo, the cars, and yes will make it. I wish depeche mode would knock Pearl Jam out because this is their first year of eligibility but I digress.

Hall of Fame: Pearl Jam, Tupac Shakur, Yes Lead Nominees - Rolling Stone

Those 5 aren't going in.
The fan vote doesn't determine who gets inducted, it gets submitted as 1 out of 800 plus ballots cast:

For the fifth consecutive year, the public will have the opportunity to vote alongside the more than 800 artists, historians and music industry insiders of the Rock Hall voting body. From now until December 6th, fans can vote on RollingStone.com for the nominees they'd like to see inducted. The top five acts will comprise a "fan's ballot" that will count as one of the ballots that determine the class of 2016.
Pearl Jam is probably the only one of those 5 getting in, they are a lock cinch, EdVed has played nice with the Hall, having inducted several other artists (including Dewey Cox).

I would like to resurrect this thread. It's been over nine years since the last post. Many of the artists listed in the posts have been inducted (Depeche Mode, The Cure, Nine Inch Nails, The Cars, and even Bon Jovi). Several artists have been nominated and hopefully will be inducted soon (Devo, Joy Division/New Order, The Smiths, Iron Maiden). There's also the never noms (Smashing Pumpkins, Boston, Kansas, Styx, REO Speedwagon).

Now or never for Oasis after last year's phenomenal reunion tour.

Coldplay feel like a safe bet.

What is your source for that? I don't see an official announcement anywhere although I'm hearing that tomorrow morning will be the announcement.

Apparently I got catfished by Gemini.

The actual list
INXS
Phil Collins
Joy Division/ New Order
Oasis
The Black Crowes
Wu-Tang Clan
Lauryn Hill
Mariah Carey
P!NK
Shakira
Jeff Buckley
Iron Maiden
Sadé
Luther Vandross
Billy Idol
Melissa Etheridge
New Edition

Sorry for the misinformation.

New Edition, Melissa Etheridge, The Black Crowes and P!nk are not deserving although I think giving P!nk another ten years for us to see her overall influence could sway my mind. New Edition's music sucked and they were marginally influential. Etheridge and the Crowes did nothing innovative and had virtually no influence (and I like the Black Crowes!)

Joy Division-New Order has long been the #1 snub ever since Kraftwerk was inducted. Iron Maiden's arguably #2.

Have to imagine that Joy Division-New Order, Billy Idol, Oasis, Mariah Carey and The Black Crowes all did fine last year because they're all back on the ballot. Which then gives away that Phish finished in 13th and Mana in 14th.

The only 99%+ lock here is Phil Collins. Anybody on this ballot could conceivably get in.

My guess for seven inductees:

1. Phil Collins
2. Lauryn Hill
3. Wu-Tang Clan
4. Oasis
5. Billy Idol
6. INXS
7. Joy Division-New Order

8. Sade

9. Shakira

They won't go beyond #9 but I imagine Iron Maiden could get side-doored via Musical Influence just like Judas Priest. The Hall's voters just really, really don't like metal. Wu-Tang Clan has the rap lane to themselves and Lauryn Hill has recent precedents (Mary J Blige, Missy Elliott) that make her seem highly likely. #4-7 are all classic rock adjacent. #8 has longstanding critical acclaim and did their own thing, #9 is a global megastar - the most famous person on this list and sells out stadiums in the US.
