I went to John Butler et al. on my own... was all good. :D Not as bad as seeing movies on your own, for some reason.

See I don't mind movies, it's not like you talk anyway. Nor do I mind shows that I can dance to and really know I'll get into, like U2. The two poeple I went to U2 with (a friend and my mother) were sooooo much less excited than me, I'd go with somone on my level any day.

I'd like company for EITS

I may have to ban myself from blue crack after the tour starts... I loved that everything came as a surprise. Well, a lot of it was a surprise.
I hate spoilers in general... so you are warned.

Hehe, don't worry, I'm good. I was always careful not to spoil my friends. A couple even wanted me to, but I knew deep down they didn't want spoilers so I didn't say anything.

For Dream Theater, I avoided spoilers. Honestly not sure it really boosted my experience that much. PT I can't do anything about it, since their first Aussie gig is in Melbourne and I was following their setlists last year because I didn't believe they'd come here! Plus Steven Wilson will likely change things up for us anyway.

Yet another reason for my desire to get hold of a time machine and go nuts on the Lovetown tour. What was it, 6 or 7 dates in the tennis centre/Rod Laver??

Seven shows! Of which three opened with Hawkmoon 269! Melbourne is the city in which the glory of live Hawkmoon was done the most!

(Melbourne 3, Sydney 2, Perth 1, Brisbane 1, Amsterdam 1. Yes, off the top of my head. :nerd: )

I went to 4/6 U2 gigs by myself. I'm gonna buy a ticket cause they are GA and then ask if any friends wanna go.
Nice

I'm hoping to meet up with a bunch of UK/European Interferencers for this Dublin thing... and there's the group of fans I saw the Melb shows with as well. Well, I was with them in the queue, and we met up after, but I got separated from them as we were being funnelled into the stadium, so I was standing with strangers for the shows themselves. But that was fine cos they were all cool people, and saved my spot when I went to the loo and gave me lollies when I realised I hadn't eaten anything since KKs at midday.

Is that part of the comedy festival? I want to see Tripod... damn they crack me up.

How much for this Chaser gig? I never watched the show much, but people seem to like it....

I don't think it is. They're doing a nationwide tour, four shows here. It's approximately $50. I can't remember the exact price, but that's roughly it. I was pleasantly surprised. I expected $75-100. That's why I told Kate I'd buy her ticket - I expected to be forking out $100 in the first place! But she's being a lame piker. She'll regret it.

Heh, if any of the others want to go, we could make this into another Melburnian Interferencers event!

For some reason, I feel weirder about going to a stage production alone than to a gig. I do wish I had company for the gigs I've seen lately, but it's alright without. A stage production though seems weird somehow.

Oh goodness, are you sure? They're metal, though loosely so. Atmospheric. Post-rock, folk influences along with black and death metal.

I love them so much.
Bring it on! Did I tell you I have a Rammstein CD?
I can't promise I'll like them, obviously, but you've gone and got me curious now. :p

And yes! The chorus of Piano Lessons is "Credit me with some intelligence, if not just credit me/I come in value packs of ten, in five varieties". The whole Stupid Dream album is loosely a swipe at commercialism, the music industry, and such. The title is about how having a dream of a music career is essentially a stupid dream. As the Piano Lessons lyrics say, "she said there's too much out there, too much already said/you better give up hoping, you're better off in bed", and of course, the last line, "waiting under streetlights for dreams to disappear".
 Good stuff!

Movies I've done a couple of times by myself. It's alright. I do like having someone to talk to beforehand though. But I rarely ever go to the movies much anyway. I went to one on the Gold Coast at Christmas with a couple of old friends from high school and one pissed me off because he kept talking and making observations throughout the fucking movie! Oh well, I didn't mind, I really badly wanted to catch up with the guys.

As for U2, I went to a couple alone and that was fine. Despite my crippling shyness, I had no trouble striking up conversations. And my resemblance to Adam Clayton helped too!

I teamed up with some cool people for the 12-4 show to get into the ellipse. There were 4 of us, a pair and 2 singles, and we all screamed like the best of friends when one ticket scanned.

I also met some area interferencers at the Liberty thing.

Oh, I know they put a fair bit of thought into their sets, they plan theirs much better than many other bands whose sets I follow (Dream Theater's current tour is very guilty of having no flow, for example), but I mean in a historical context. I very much doubt they're too aware of patterns and so forth. They're planning sets for the current tour, not sitting around saying "shit, wonder where Exit got to?" It already HAS slipped under their radar.
.... I see what you mean.

When did they start doing I Will Follow and the Boy stuff again? Or has that kinda been there all along but I didn't notice...

I guess they do occasionally bring up old things that haven't seen daylight (well, moonlight?) for a while... but maybe they figure things like Exit don't fit with where they're at musically or whatever any more. Which is a damn shame, really.

I would love to be a fly on the wall in that studio.

I just let unico in on our plan btw. Hope that's OK.

More than fine! The more the merrier! Bring in anybody else cool. :)

I think I'm going to forever associate her with "oh fuck my touchpad" though. I feel so immature for still being amused by that, but damnit, it's been endless lulz, especially with Ian's "strange and exciting things".

I'm too easily amused sometimes. I've been in fits of laughter throughout all the recent postwhoring.

When I go to movies alone I usually hop theater to theater and see 2-3 on one ticket. Just bring a book for between shows.

Back at the very start of Vertigo, when it was meant to begin in Miami on 1 March, a few of us had made a plan to follow U2 around the northeast of the US. That obviously fell through and I didn't seriously meet any Interferencers until U2 got down here. I think before then, I'd only met Daniel.

I spent a few shows hanging out with a bunch of cool Germans. The guy I co-maintain U2VT with is German and he came down here for the gigs with some friends. We had a grand time. They were photographers and tapers and I was the setlistorian.

Wait, I told you this on Sunday last. Oh well, now Varitek knows too.

Arr... will do some research and think about it. :)

I'm looking up transport for EITS (train and a bus grr philly subway sucks) and I want to know 1) how far in advance to get there for a good spot and 2) how long they will play? they start at 8.

IWF has largely been there all along. After Lovetown, it was ditched for almost all of ZooTV in 1992 - it was done at the second-last gig. It then appeared at a handful of 1993 European ZooTV shows. Then it was done at every Popmart gig and regularly since.

As for the other stuff, 11OTT wasn't done at all between 10 January 1990 and 5 December 2000. OOC was 10 January 1990 through to ... fuck, so tired, 15? May 2001. Everything else had longer breaks. Elevation and Vertigo both had a fair bit of rediscovery of old stuff, so they clearly have thought about it a bit.

I would love to be a fly on the wall in that studio.

Me too.

Incidentally, I think Exit would have fit perfectly right before LAPOE.

guys we should pick a new thread and then i'm going

Ooh yes. Three Chords is the forum, right? Let's see what we can find ...

Wait is Kate Khanada? I thought she was in the US?

Oh, shit, sorry. I forgot you didn't know. Kate is my ex-girlfriend, we're still good friends these days. Khan is Katie.

I still need to try that segue of yours, Ax... wonder if can I find it now?

Exit -> LAPOE... damn, that sounds bizarre but hawt. I loved LAPOE live... it's my fave track off Bomb.

I so didn't expect to see the end of another thread...

Varitek, part two should be with you now... or the link at least. :D

I turned up 10 minutes before doors opened! The queue wasn't that bad, and when everybody got inside, they all went for the merch stand or drinks, so I just casually strolled up to the stage!

As for how long they play, they usually do about 80-90 minutes. Never an encore. The schedule in Melbourne was:

8:30pm - doors
9-9:40 - El May
10-10:40 - Eluvium
11:05pm-12:25am - EITS (they were actually scheduled for 11:10-12:20am)

I am not good friends with my ex. I don't know how you people manage it. We talk a bit more now but for so long he was hung up on me so I cut off contact, because that wasn't healthy. Then of course summer was over and we're at the same small school and he said a few really obnoxious things. It's still a little awkward but we can gchat OK. I'm happy that he just got into MIT for his phd.

Melissa's so in for jealousy from us!

So am I, I think. I'm pushing through the sleep deprivation. Let's get this to 1,000. We can do it, I know we can. Especially if PFan or someone appears.

I might be stuck for transport if it goes that late, I hate philly. They're scheduled for 8pm with one other act - lichens? So hopefully it's over in time for me to get a bus and catch the last train back at midnight. If not I'll have to stay with somebody in the city.
