Things Ashley likes: Scotch, 80s music, Wild Nothing, Hair Metal, 60s Hippie Folk

Speaking of which, Ashley, should I go see Wild Nothing live in a few weeks? Not a huge fan of the latest album, but I love the previous two...

He gets better live each time I see him. He's nothing astounding, but at least he doesn't seem to have stage fright any more, which he admitted to having the first time I saw him. He's actually begun to interact with the crowd, and what not, and he plays a pretty decent set. If you like his music, you'll enjoy him live. It translates well, and it sounds great.

Wait, so Axl Rose really is going to be the new AC/DC singer?

Hahahahahahaha.

I'm late and catching up on this thread, but I had to reply to this because I'm shocked anyone here knows this song. One of my favorite GNR songs, and never thought it would be played again live. I actually stayed up watching the show on Periscope and when I heard the opening notes I actually jumped up off the couch and yelled Holy Shit they're playing Coma! The fact that they nailed it brought a tear to my eye.

My favorite GnR tune.

Saw 3 UYI tour shows but never got Coma, the inclusion of it in Vegas ramped my interest in going to the Foxboro show from so-so to pretty high.

Cool, you convinced me. Will get tickets tomorrow. Thanks!

Travis has a GREAT video link about how big Mr. Big is in Japan somewhere.

Hewson, I think you might've just decided for me how I'm going to spend my evening.

yes, I don't know why but in Japan people don't consider Mr. Big as one-hit wonderer. plus, I play guitar so I see Mr. Big's guitarist (Paul Gilbert, who has Japanese wife, apparently) all the time in magazines for guitarists. They're great musicians, and I respect them but they should just stop chucking in random shred-y solos everywhere in the songs.

My favorite GnR tune.

Nice list, I can't argue with any of those songs. That last part of Coma is such an incredible synergy between the bed of music and wordstream.

Unfortunately I didn't have much interest in music in general until 1991 when Don't Cry came out. A friend had the tape and I fell in love it with it. I had UYI I and II on constant repeat for a year. Then I rented Live From Tokyo from the video store and taped Live from the Ritz from the radio and became obsessed for a few years. Only U2 live from Sydney knocked them out of the first slot, so they've been my #2 favorite for 25 years.

Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to see the 92/93 tour but got to see Axl N' Friends in 2002 at MSG, then the surprise show in 2006, then a bunch of times in NY and Vegas.

I'm in the minority that actually loved Chinese Democracy. But of course, it's not Slash and Duff.

On YouTube: Perfect Crime from Indiana and Right Next Door to Hell from St. Louis (maybe the other way around) are insane.

It's weird, I'm not into AC/DC or Guns n Roses but I for some reason I'm finding the news Axl Rose is their new singer pretty cool. Maybe in a car-crash way.

My brother is excited as all hell.

The GNR portion of the Coachella live stream is about to start. It's lagged for me.

Silversun Pickups played a never ending set. But good lord I wish the live stream was "live".

the news itself sounds fucking amazing. whoever making fun of news with headlines like "super-dad rock concert planned by Coachella promoter" are just plain stupid: McCartney, Dylan, The Stones, more coming together for the ultimate dad concert · Newswire · The A.V. Club

Well, it is the ultimate dad concert and you're probably going to need to be a pretty wealthy dad to afford tickets. Price out everybody under forty so nobody has to roll their eyes at "kids these days".

Yeah that was on the front page of reddit today. I'm glad it's far enough on the future that maybe I can find a way to make it reality. It would check off a ton of my bucket list.

Grimes is playing one of the free Salt Lake concerts this summer. I'm sure I'll go.

Getting tired but I guess I'll try and stay up for GnR
