I wouldn't worry about them still being in the studio. If I remember correctly, they were in the studio all the way up to Xmas leading up to NLOTH as well.

The very late nights show they are going like mad to finish it so it's promising! Still won't get an announcement until next month at least.

People were surprised that (according to rumours) the tour will start only 2 months after the album drops.
But considering they've spent 3 years on this set of songs they would undoubtedly know them inside out by now and wouldn't need to rehearse!

Uh, no. The songs are likely still being rewritten or new ones entirely added right now. U2 is not a band that goes out without rehearsal. In fact I imagine they may take only a short Christmas break before going into serious rehearsal mode, because the one time they went out underprepared it did not go over all that well.

Or maybe I missed an unspoken smiley in there, and you totally know that.

I doubt this, and I doubt this woman. I doubt they're "recording" or rewriting. They've already done photoshoots and listenings. They might be mixing or fine tuning but I kinda doubt they're still in writing and recording mode.

Yeah it was kinda a dig at how long it's taking.
In any case we should know what's going on very shortly (I hope)

I don't know about that. Several have them have said recently that they're still finishing, and I've heard it said before that they're often still writing even in the very last stages. But I'm not there, so who knows?

I'm not sure they're going to cut short their Christmas, but otherwise I agree with you completely. It would not surprise me at all if they were still tweaking these songs, if not completely reworking some of them or writing/recording "new" ones at this stage. I don't remember reading anywhere (at least anywhere reliable) that the record was finished. Fans here (and elsewhere) just assumed (hoped) it was done, so any information which contradicts this creates cognitive dissonance, and must therefore be discarded. The same thing happened a while back with the talk of how the never-announced record was somehow "delayed".

I have no reason to believe this woman's Tweet is fake. Given the history of reliance on Tweets from non-official sources that turned out to be untrue, I understand the reluctance to believe any such Tweets on this board. But it makes perfect sense that they're still working on this thing, and in fact it would be completely consistent with their modus operandi on previous releases.

Why surprised?

They started the tour for NLOTH in June as well, and that album dropped late feb, early march. So it's only one month difference.

I'm actually looking forward to the tour more than the album. This will be the fifth U2 tour for me, and I can't wait to attend show no. 12. Seeing them live is always special. The album will doubtless be overcooked at this point I'm sorry to say. Every note, every lyric will have been worked into the ground, neutering the life out of them. My expectations for this record borderline on apathy. There's nothing I'd love more than for them to blow me away, but...nah, can't see it happening. But - announce those tour dates! :hyper:

Noone should read too much into this tweet, legit or not because it doesn't mean anything in terms of where the album is at. You can spend a night into morning and next day just getting the sound of a tom "just so" if you want to be that obsessive about it, and they are certainly known to be. Re-recording parts to see if you can get a better sound, etc. They've already stated that they want to be completely finished before Christmas.

A U2 album is never truly and fully "done" until just before they release it, this is nothing new. They are constantly tweaking remixing etc. That doesn't mean in any way that the songs aren't fundamentally what the songs are going to be or that there is any sort of major rewriting, reworking, or new writing happening. Baseless speculation aside, staffers and people in the know have been told that the album is pretty much done and they're fine tuning.

I would like to add something that I didn't see posted here, if somene did and I didn't see it please ignore my post.
The album could be finished and ( I think ) they could be working on different mixes for the singles...I know the tweet said RECORDING, but just wanted to point out that whenever the album is finished, they still have work to do with the edited versions for the singles...no?

I wonder when we gonna see the effects regarding the new manager. I mean, I know that U2 isn't a regular band, and they don't work like the others, and they're huge and work in their own ways, but I wonder if we gonna see - and in which areas - we gonna see some differences (like promotion, singles in radio, tour and etc).

It's their first tour without Paul, and there's the death of Mark as well. Probably they're working with Guy for a while, doing the transition scheme, so I wonder of the lack of information has something about it, and even the release date...

That explains the silence on the album... still working on it.

U2 will continue working on the record until the moment they stop working on it...and even then, it won't be "finished", merely abandoned. This Tweet (assuming it's legit, and I imagine it is) just confirms that they aren't at that point yet.

Again, none of this is new for them, and it shouldn't surprise anyone that they're still in the studio.
