My favorite album of the year so far, easily. I have a lot to say about it, but will try to keep the rambling to a minimum.

This thing just has that vibe. The atmosphere he's created here is fucking awesome. Such a peaceful, relaxing, fun, and happy vibe. You can just picture Eddie on the beach in Hawaii, or maybe even sitting up on top of a palm tree there, underneath the stars, looking out at the ocean, smoking a doobie and sipping wine out of the bottle while singing these songs.

This is so unlike anything he's done in his career. The minimalism thing is there in a few PJ tracks, and on the Into The Wild soundtrack, but those were different, often had some darker touches, etc.

These are just fucking straight up love songs, and he sounds so contented. It's impressive that he can come up with a set of memorable tunes, just him and the ukulele. And the few times that a track has added production touches or whatever (layered vocals, the wave sounds on "Light Today," the strings on "Longing to Belong," Chan Marshall's vocals on "Tonight You Belong To Me") it works really well.

Perfect summer album. Thank you, Eddie.

So you'd recommend it to any self-respecting music fan then? Even if he was not a big fan of songs like Just Breathe? And when he hears even the word ukulele his mind immediately jumps to that sickening Train song?

I'll keep on healin' all the scars
That we've collected from the start
I'd rather this, than live without you

For every wish upon a star
That goes unanswered in the dark
There is a dream I've dreamt about you

i think it's certainly a niche' album... certain people just don't like the uke. some can take it more in smaller doses than an entire album's worth.

it's a nice way for eddie to get some of the work that wouldn't necessarily fit on a pearl jam album out of his system. i like the album a lot. i'd love it more if it was the same songs but with more of a mix of instruments, but i do like the songs a lot.

I'm really loving Ukulele Songs as well...I was bit skeptical at first ("So, 90% of it is just vocals and ukulele? Won't that get boring after three songs?"), but that mindset disappeared by the end of "Sleeping By Myself". Like GAF said, pretty much a perfect summer album.

Oh, and "Hey, Soul Sister" can die in a fire.

I heard Longing To Belong on the radio the other day and was enamored with it. Gorgeous track. I had no intention to listen to Ukulele Songs, but now I feel I must. Hearing Eddie Vedder of all people plow through 16 tracks in 34 minutes also interests me for whatever reason.

Hey Soul Sister is hideous. Worst lyrics and worst hook ever, which is impressive.

 Train used to be a fun little band, that entire record is cringe-worthy, "Save Me San Francisco" manages to be even worse than Hey Soul Sister.

I'm super jealous, every time he's done a solo jaunt the Boston date is inconvenient for me.
