Since March 2003, much has happened in the world of the African Well Fund organization. You may recall that this is one of several organizations formed by fans after Bonos documented appearance on MTVs Diary in 2002 with Chris Tucker.

The group raised enough money (approx. $1,000) for their first well, which is in the process of being built in a small village in Uganda.

"We are supposed to receive the name of the village within a couple of months," said Julie Cook, Media Development Coordinator. "Believe me, we will be promoting it on our website."

However, the groups recent publicity tops all promotions - it was another way of motivating U2 fans to help by giving Bono one of the best presents hes ever received, a birthday well in his name. At press time, totals raised so far have not been available. A complete total will be announced soon. The goal was to raise enough money and have fans sign an online birthday card to be given to Bono himself.

In addition to Bonos birthday present, other interesting additions have been added to the website. In honor of the International Year of Freshwater, a term coined by the United Nations, the AWF has created a multi-disciplinary lesson plan for classrooms ranging from kindergarten through 8th grade. The lesson plans are designed to promote a better knowledge and appreciation for one of the most valuable resources we in America take for granted every day - water.
