I highly recommend continuing watching Scorsese's work. Raging Bull, After Hours, Mean Streets, The Last Temptation of Christ, The Departed, and The Aviator should not be missed.

Oh shit. I've seen The Departed, too. And that's my favourite, actually, thanks to Marky Mark and Mr. Baldwin.

I was trying to go in order but never got around to Lifes Rich Pageant, so I may just give up on that.

Automatic is not only REM's best album, but one of the best albums by anyone, period.

It's definitely superior to its contemporary, Achtung Baby.

I'll take whatever people are willing to send, I've not listened to a new album in a while.

The first three are all good, but are very samey. I find it hard to tell some of the tracks apart.

Wow, really? I really love that film, especially since it was one of the first Scorsese flicks I had actually seen, but after going through the rest of his body of work, I feel it fits more with the middle-tier of films... not that upper echelon of Raging Bull/GoodFellas/Mean Streets/Taxi Driver. Then again, I wasn't that big on Casino, and apparently people consider that his best work, too.

I honestly have not disliked a single film of his thus far. That is insane.

Many consider them to be one of the most influential bands of all-time and the most influential progressive rock band ever.

I'm not all that into prog. I like Porcupine Tree and what Pink Floyd I've heard, but they're only loosely prog.

GoodFellas is one of those movies I know I should like. But I just didn't like it as much as I should've. Perhaps it was all the hype of knowing I should like it, and then being let down? As for Taxi Driver, it's great. I should watch it again soon. And I haven't seen Mean Streets or Raging Bull. I think part of why I like The Departed so much is that I got to see it in a theatre 3x and the cast was absolutely brilliant.

In The Court of The Crimson King and Red are both, for lack of a better word, really good. Red is more metallic, while Court is sprinkled with fairy dust and shit.

That could be a part of it. To me, Scorsese's films are usually cast extremely well, but like you said, The Departed's cast was absolutely stacked. Mean Streets is so fucking good... that one really surprised me. Raging Bull is undoubtedly his greatest achievement; maybe it's not as "entertaining" as his mob-related fare, but goddamn, that movie is gorgeously crafted and well-performed.

Maybe someday I'll get to them. I've got a long queue of my own music I have to listen to as I continue to import it into iTunes (gotta make sure it doesn't skip, and therefore listen to it), and all these Desert Island lists. Mr. V's is quite short, though.

Taxi Driver's score is what stopped me from downright loving that movie. I still haven't seen the last hour of Casino but I liked what I saw. IMO, you can't go wrong with DeNiro, possibly the reason I don't like most of Scorsese's other films. Goodfellas is probably my favorite, and I was greatly disappointed with The Departed simply because I saw it AFTER it won the academy awards, and really, compared with his other work, didn't deserve it.

I'm heading out, too. I'll check out Tourist's thoughts when I return tomorrow.

Night, gang. Good talk, Russ.

What have you heard? They were psychedelic with Syd Barrett, but after that were pretty much all prog.

I guess I just consider prog more the type of stuff with typicaly 5 songs on an album and no real singles. I consider Mars Volta prog. They had a single once, though. I dunno. I've just never considered them prog. Maybe an influence on prog, though, with pop elements.

I'll have to check out those two then.

Hmmm, I've yet to be impressed with a Gorillaz song. Let's see if this one does.

And I, surprisingly, am. No rap mingled in. Melikes. And now onto Always Forever Now. This song now reminds me of Heat.
