Didn't think he was officially quitting from what I read, just told to stop touring to save his hearing. Don't know if he'll be able to tour again at any point in the future.

Besides George the only claim I think that has any kind of legitimacy is Brian Epstein, Pete Best (ugh) and Stu Sutcliffe notwithstanding, of course.

I've heard some others say Ravi Shankar or the Maharishi (lol wut) should be considered the fifth Beatle, and radio DJ Murray the K called himself that constantly on their first visit to the US, but those people are idiots.
