Woah, those guys are serious! But, I understand.
The US president’s part in the College Green victims of colonialism pageant was galling
ONLY A fine line separates a great orator from a flimflam merchant. And much as I admire the man, Barack Obama proved the point with his speech the other week at College Green, Dublin.
So patronising was he that halfway through I found myself wondering what kind of brief his two Irish-American speech-writers had been given: “Let’s just tell these people whatever they want to hear?”
Anyone know if Obama has yet stated a constitutional justification for attacking Libya?
we owe the UK. big time.
WH Calls Libya Resolutions Unhelpful, Unnecessary
AP
The White House says congressional resolutions that would rebuke President Barack Obama over the conflict in Libya are "unnecessary and unhelpful."
Spokesman Josh Earnest says Obama consulted with lawmakers before ordering air strikes against Moammar Gadhafi's forces in March in an operation now run by NATO.
Earnest says because of that ongoing consultation, the administration believes it has acted in accordance with the War Powers Act, despite ignoring a deadline under the law to seek Congress' formal sign-off for the military action.
The House is likely to pass a resolution later Friday opposing U.S. ground forces in Libya and demanding specifics on the operation and its costs. A separate resolution to end U.S. involvement was expected to fail.
Earnest spoke to reporters traveling with Obama en route to Ohio.
It would have been such a hassle to have the vote, anyways. Centralizing power in the Executive branch is......streamlining!
You can thank Bush, Cheney, and AG Alberto Gonzales for the precedent

The White House downplayed a disappointing May jobs report Friday that showed unemployment inched up to 9.1 percent, with President Obama’s chief economist Austan Goolsbee calling the latest number one of the “bumps on the road to recovery.”
I'll give them one month with a road bump (obviously because I support the guy).
But, if the employment rate goes up again next month, I expect a push for more stimuli.
The tax cuts ain't doing it. (Surprise! Supply-side economics is bullshit.)
Do you really wanna compare the Reagan recovery vs the Obama recovery?
Do you really wanna compare the Reagan recovery vs the Obama recovery?
I'd love to compare income tax rates between Reagan's and Obama's admins.
Obama is much more popular now than Regan was at this point in his term, and Obama inherited a much deeper recession and he inherited much deeper deficits.
in 1984 the economy started to heat up, but in 1982/3, not so much.
but we'll see. while the 7% point is a good marker, it's not so perfect in that unemployment was actually higher in 1984 than it was in 1980, but because it had gone down, Reagan looked effectual.
Granted no two recessions or recoveries are the same. Obama must deal with a debt and housing crisis but Reagan inherited double digit inflation and interest rates. The difference is Reagan didn't go for the quick fix, his monetary policies actually slowed the recovery until late 1982 which is why the GOP lost big in the mid-terms. But starting in 1983 until the time of his reelection real GDP grew at almost 8% and more than 5 million jobs (in a smaller economy) were created.
What were we promised by the administration unemployment rates would be at this point if we passed the 2009 stimulis bill? Never above 8 and under 7 by mid 2011 wasn't it?
Surprise! Keynesian economics leads to inefficient expenditures of capital.
but i will say, and i said in 2008, that although Romney makes my skin crawl, he is a very smart, rational person and i'd rather the country in his hands than W, Palin, McCain, or pretty much any other Republican out there.
