Lets just settle this shit once and for all: would some PLEBAn kindly tell us how old this dude is, supposedly?

Crap, really? Was this in one of the recent interviews? I know the Apple thing was supposed to be 18 months away, and people were speculating they'd hold back on SOE until then, but was there something more concrete that I missed?
Edit: never mind, I saw it in another thread. Damn!
In Time's forthcoming cover story, Bono hints that the band's next record is "about 18 months away" and will be released under the new file format.

What's relevant is not how any sick , bigoted or simple minded folk perceive this picture, but that by the time the album is out, anyone who questions it will be met with "that's his 19 year old son you fucking moron"

Serious question: what if the album cover was a similar pose of Bono with his daughter? Would it feel more or less "icky" to some? Would it be defended as vehemently by others?

and as the father of a young man trying to strike out on his own as much as he can it speaks to me on a very personal level: I can feel myself clinging to him for dear life, not for some mournful feeling of innocence lost (I'm pretty sure he lost much of his already lmao), but because as he does become a man the instances where we can embrace or be close are so few and far between that each one feels like it needs to really count. On that level, this image really speaks very very deeply to me.
that's exactly where i'm at right now with my eldest, gvox! i'm at that point of desperately wanting to cling onto my baby boy but am having to learn to let him go (to uni lol) and spread his wings... wow, i never knew it would hurt so much, the missing, but the joy i get from watching him spread his wings and fly with confidence is immense... (and this is probably why i relate to and love the image so much)
Good grief. Really? Not even remotely the same thing.
Here's a more appropriate way of asking your question: if it was Ali with Eve, in a similar pose....would anyone even bat an eye?
At the risk of anyone misinterpreting what I'm about to do next..

But people keep saying this is just a touching image of parent/child. If there's absolutely no sexual connection to be made, why does gender matter?
(I don't have an answer for this, I'm just stirring the pot since we're already so far removed from any real discussion about the album cover.)
theHitman says it like it is...
gvox/mama cass: you're both exactly where I am...my son just turned 18 and he's off to school living with his mom (my ex) and man I am feeling melancholy...miss my little guy...but want him to move on and up...good luck to the both of you.
I hug him like Larry hugs his boy...a little higher up...but I still hold onto him...

I'll you, since we're both men and we don't want anyone misinterpreting

Indeed...and your question just points out that the image isn't as clear cut in its meaning as some are making it out to be. There's more to this than "Either you get it or you're sick". People who think that don't understand what art is supposed to do, or why U2 chose this kind of image when there were a million other ways to display parental love.
And if the pic was simple, or just a clear cut photo of innocence, it would not be anywhere near so interesting and no one would be talking about it. U2 knows what they're doing, even if some of us don't.
