Either before or after Without Or Without You, Edge and Dallas spoke for a few seconds. I'm assuming that if the wildcard was true, that's when it was cancelled. :(

U2 didn't go on to 9:20, so who knows what would've happened if they went on their normal time..

I hope they bring back The Fly for NJ as well. I think someone monitors the boards, because not long after someone mentioned the absence of Ultraviolet, they played it again. Recently a thread about the absence of Magnificent was posted, and they played it last night. I just wonder about who makes these decisions. If they really wanted to bring Magnificent back, I can think of better songs in the set to replace than The Fly. Willie and others involved in the production should be observing crowd reactions and know which songs generate the most energy. Let's replace Streets with Stuck while we're at it.

Part is true, part isn't.

The absence of Ultraviolet isn't because someone saw it here, it's because Montreal2 was the only city left that had a 2nd show. Sofar at all shows if there were more shows in a city, they rotated Batman and UV. This isn't anything new.

On other parts, yeah, they definitely have someone checking here. The addition of The Fly, Discotheque snippet, Zooropa, killing of IALW can't have been complete coincidences. And now Magnificent is back too. Shame they took the wrong spot to replace it with.
Overall the setlist has improved to WAY more Interference friendly ever since 2009. There's just the lack of NLOTH songs people seem to complain about, so that's a pretty good score compared to the 2009 complaints.

If they have someone checking here, BRING BACK NLOTH!!!! It was great in Vegas!

Not only is The Fly delicious, the lights on The Claw DEMAND that it be played...it's too good to skip it here and there.
This. Besides, it's a central part of the ZooTV opening! Magnificent is a fine addition to the setlist, but if any song other than the obvious warhorses deserves a staple slot, it's The Fly.

Actually, Ultraviolet was also played in Baltimore, but that was still nearly three weeks after the Ultraviolet thread was started, so it may or may not be related to the thread.

if they have someone checking here, please don't play OOC. especially in minneapolis and moncton.

/hater :)

don't mention nyd to outsider, she'll cut you. :)

i am ok with missing it

But I have to admit, overall, they're doing a great job with the setlists. They are rotating songs, playing stuff that is rarely played etc...

But if anyone of influence is reading this, can we get The Fly back (and Bad perhaps)? I know I'm getting greedy.:cute:

I wasn't looking for it to happen at all, but I was happy when I got it. I am sure others have seen songs that I would like to (Bad). That's the life of a U2 fan.

Yes, these, All I Want Is You and something from Pop in full. At this point, I'd even take Miami or Playboy Mansion. Greed is OK when it comes to U2 songs, I believe that's written in the Bible somewhere. Feel free to play an extra hour or two also. We waited a long time for this show.

Yeah, an extra hour would be super...and while they're at it, perhaps they could set up the Claw in my backyard and play a show.

*makes thread demanding return of A Celebration*

Haha at this rate why doesn't U2 just open up part of the set to be fan voted haha! Could be interesting... I also think it's kind of pointless to even have an opening band! Yes I know it's a great way to get lesser known bands a platform to uhm portray their talent...Or lack! :p But frankly the arenas don't fill up until after the opening band! Why not just blast some band picked tunes over the awesome soundsystem and go from there? :D

It depends on the show location and opener. In Europe most shows are pretty packed if it's a good opener like Snow Patrol or Kaiser Chiefs.

To save me the trouble of sifting through the thread, does anyone know what the delay with the bands were? Why did Interpol have to go on a little later, which made U2 go on around 9:20?

Anywho, great show, but I think I enjoyed Baltimore better? I don't know, hard to say.

I wish they would have played The Fly instead of Magnificent, though, but it was still cool to hear/see that since the last time I saw it was in Landover in '09.

Really glad they played HMTMKMKM, as that has been one of my most anticipated songs to see live :D

Next show for me is Pittsburgh

Great show! Yeah, we didn't get The Fly. However, the crowd was VERY loud, at least where I was (dead center outer rail, two back---hard to believe I was #597). People were singing nearly every line of about 3/4 of the songs. Pretty impressive. Bono picked up on it & a few times shouted out how great & loud the crowd were.

I don't know where the Bruce stuff came from. No one near us in line or on the floor talked about it at all----it seems like it was just that one guy's "source."

In a sense, I'm glad that I got to see the Achtung opening in Baltimore AND this set, especially a great performance of the album version of Magnificent. Other highlights:

- Bono absolutely nailed the opera part of Miss Sarajevo---it really may have been the best performance of it since he nailed it in Milan on Vertigo.
- Bono didn't hit the high "staaaaay" in Stay, but he damn well gave it his all to try and get it
- Edge flubbed a note early in a song, I believe it was UTEOTW, and when Bono walked toward him a moment later, Edge had this fun "oops!" smile on his face.
-Bono got absolutely, completely absorbed and fired up by the rap in MOS. It looked like if he kept going, he could've gone into a dark Exit/Mofo-type place. He was still winding down as the rest of the band were already stepping forward and clapping toward the crowd. That residual energy really made me think that he might up and say that he wanted to do another song after MOS. Of course, it only turned out to be Happy Birthday....I would have been bummed to end on that if it were for some politician or tour promoter, but we all were really into it after hearing that it was for Nelson Mandela.

As for being a goofball & starting the thread despite not being able to post tags ;), I just had to share that Breathe was seriously soundchecked but didn't have any over place to put it. My bad. ;) I'm fairly certain it was the crew. It was done in the earlier part of the afternoon (they worked on it from about 2:30 through 3:00) & occurred after not just a few songs, but also after the check of the recordings of the Boots intro, the "Hello, Philadelphia from the International Space Station" recording, and a few other of the recorded bits. The full band soundchecked two songs I believe much later on, closer to when they let us in. It may have been the band for Breathe----they worked on it for a good 20+ minutes, and worked on it with sections of instruments and all instruments together---but I just doubted it because if how early it was.

The Trip Through Your Wires bit was about 30seconds to a minute long & occurred shortly after they finished working on Breathe. So, whoever did Breathe, it was the same guitarist who did Trip. Shawn Bonneau seems to have heard it, too, so it wasn't just me!

I would love it if they played Breathe after MOS at Moncton, just to bring the tour full-circle.

Maybe that whole wildcard thing is just because they have been finishing with random songs at some recent shows and is making sure the crew are aware the MOS isn't necessarily the end these days, because all crew members have these setlists too yeah?

Ie a kind of hold your positions until band leaves stage kind of thing?

I am late late to the party, but I must add... I have seen 20ish shows, and last nights was one of the two best. The band was on... the setlist was tight (even though it is static.... the transitions were good). The crowd was the best I have ever seen. I never thought my Philadelphians would outdo the Dublin crowd from 2009, but it wasn't even close, I was at the back of GA this time with my Bro and his fiance (newbies) and my lady who is vertically challenged, and even back there every single person was jumping, singing and dancing. It was completely amazing. EBTTRT and Zooropa were completely amazing. Awesome.

i have seen about a dozen U2 shows, and one was in Philly for the first leg of Vertigo.

it was, hands down, the best U2 crowd i've been a part of. everyone knew the words to both "electric co." and to "yahweh."

good on you, Philly.

though my friend who went said Bono was a bit sluggish, she blamed it on his back. can anyone else agree/disagree?

Great post. The fans were fantastic!

I also chuckled at the point in COBL where Bono accidentally started a second "Oh you look so beautiful" chant, but soon came to realize that it was not warranted for that part of the song, so he trailed off, but still finished what he was saying

Can't wait for a video sourced recording of this show. I already have an audio source and it sounds great, so hopefully the video shows up soon. :hyper:

I believe I'll talk the center, outer rail when my girlfriend and I go to the Pittsburgh show :)

No, I'm sad to say that Philly was my last 360 gig. Have a great time! I'm also eager to see if video pops up from this show. It was great that Baltimore's came through.

That part in COBL was great. I think Bono was jus feeding off the crowd and got wrapped up in it, almost doing the extended "oh you look.." too soon because he got carried away. Pretty cool.
