I'm not really going to pursue the website thing very much since, you know, we basically don't do the Shuttlecock thing anymore. I just e-mailed them out of curiosity.

I honestly have no idea why you have kept it up, but I guess you should be credited for your ... consistency? I don't know. Something.

I don't know, the Jewish slur used for the 5th track on ATYCLC would look pretty bad to someone who hadn't been in on all the back-and-forth ribbing that's gone on here for ages.

Ok, then they're a pussy for going to the mods/web host instead of saying something themselves

The e-mail they sent back simply said I violated the content section of terms of service. So, someone reported it for being offensive.

I'm not bothering to fight it because I don't care, but it's kind of bullshit.

In that case, Cock Part II was very offensive.

Don't believe in tennis
Don't believe it's ball
But the game is not the same
Without the nets they made up
Don't believe in racquets
Bigger than your head
Don't believe in short shorts
Sunburn on my leg is red
I ... I believe in 'Cock

Don't believe in do-overs
Don't believe in faults
But every time I fuck up a serve
I have my second thoughts
Don't believe in Sampras,
Serena and the gang
Don't believe in Agassi
Or Federer's headband
I ... I believe in 'Cock

Don't believe in bounces
Gotta play it in the air
Tennis let's you play those
And I think that's unfair
Don't believe what they tell me
That they're in better shape
I'll show you every band-aid
Every wrist I've had to tape
I ... I believe in 'Cock

Don't believe in McEnroe
His type are like a curse
Instant karma's gonna get him
If I don't get him first
Don't believe that tennis
Can really change the world
Serves too high in the air
With their spirals and turns
I ... I believe in 'Cock

Don't believe the 90s
Were the years they were on top
Shuttlecock's been better
Since the first birdie ever dropped
Heard Stu Scott on the radio
Shoutin', "Tennis, BOO YEAH!"
I smashed it with my racquet
Shouting, "What an EPIC FAIL!"
I ... I believe in 'Cock

I feel like I'm serving
Serving it across
It always stops next to the line
Can't remember when I've lost
I ... I believe in 'Cock

as much as i hate to change the subject away from cocks ...

anyone else in love with crystal castles ii? i just got it a few days ago and it's exactly the kind of dance music i'm into. really excellent stuff, catchy as all get out. makes me want to throw a dance party, right now

is this really necessary? personal attacks such as this are not allowed.

How can it possibly be a personal attack if I dont even know who the person was? I'm saying the way in which they handled the situation was akin to "teacher, billy said a dirty word". It wasn't necessary to report anything to the mods to begin with, let alone going as far as getting their little webpage shut down

really? it doesn't matter if you know who it is or not, it was obviously directed at this person and there's obviously a possibility they would read the post. and...what? i don't think anyone's suggested that these were the same person. seeing as the webpage is totally separate from interference, it's entirely possible someone who doesn't even know this forum existed stumbled across it and as such had no idea of the backstory and got offended by it. who knows.

It was suggested that they were the same person and it's not outlandish that it would be. It's not very likely someone would stumble across such a tiny and obscure website if not through interference. Might not be the same person, but it wouldn't be shocking in the least. But whatever, it was just an off the cuff remark. I have no vested interest in the Shuttlecock gobbledygook, I just felt a better move would be addressing the situation rather than tattling to the mods. Reading my post again, admittedly my language was a little rough, but I stand by the sentiment

I know that the band Genesis has/had a pretty sizable following in this part of the forum. I don't know shit about them, never have listened to a single album, and I know more about Phil Collins' work on the Tarzan soundtrack than I do about the band Genesis.

Are they good? Who likes them here, again? I forgot.

My curiosity was piqued, because I was listening to the classic rock station the other day and they played this really fucking long Genesis song called Tonight, Tonight, Tonight. It's kind of stuck with me a couple of days later. I can't tell if I loved it, hated it, just found it intriguing, or what. I thought the tone of the instrumentation was pretty interesting, and unique, and Collins repeated the chorus so many damn times that the tune just crawled into my ear and it's still sitting there. TONIGHT TONIGHT TONIGHT! WHOAAAAA OHHHH! I'M GONNA MAKE IT RIGHT! TONIGHT TONIGHT TONIGHT!

I think Genesis are one of those bands that people love a few songs, mostly for 80s nostalgia, but would never be caught dead at a concert.
Land of Confusion was a good one.
And this is still one of the best 80s songs around:

I have mixed feelings towards Genesis, both eras.

The Peter Gabriel era is great to listen to, but I don't feel compelled all that often.

The Phil Collins era is pretty godawful for the most part, but I really do love Invisible Touch and select other works.

If you want pop music, Gaffer, you *might* want to look more into Invisible Touch, but I think most here around this part of the forum would disagree about even touching Collins Genesis.

If you want more experimental/proggier, then obviously you'd want to try out Gabriel Genesis, possibly Foxtrot. "Watcher of the Skies" is a fantastic tune, and "Supper's Ready" has moments of greatness.

Tonight, Tonight, Tonight is awesome and all (my favorite 80s song of theirs, easily), but fuck Phil Collins Genesis. Either lame pop or prog without the mystery. It could be argued that Peter Gabriel Genesis never could write a decent pop song, but their songs have always had enough hooks for me.

Ashley is damn right that Watcher of the Skies is a fantastic tune:

Terrific record. Suffocation is on my DI list this time out, and I think that one stands up with any of my favorite dance songs ever. Have you heard the debut? Never got around to it myself, mostly because the press for this one is unanimously stronger.

I think that everything from the Peter Gabriel era is worth a listen. Even Genesis to Revelation has a distinctive feel and a handful of really strong tracks. Trespass may be my favorite album from them, and Lamb Lies Down on Broadway is one of the most ambitious albums that I have ever heard, even if it is to some extent an inferior Quadrophenia.

I do not want to discount the Collins era entirely, though. The two albums immediately following Gabriel's departure, A Trick of the Tail and Wind and Wuthering, are both strong efforts. I also have a soft spot for Collins in his pop incarnation. The Genesis songs from that era have aged better than his solo songs, I think.

I think the animosity towards post-Gabriel Genesis is due to how different they sounded, but as far as pop music was concerned, a lot of it is pretty great and not nearly as watered-down as some of their contemporaries. While I don't know how well full albums would go down, there are a lot of stand-out songs. Either you can't stand Phil Collins or you can. I think the guy's got a disarming self-deprecating sense of humor and so I find him bearable, and it's not too far off from solo McCartney, to be honest.

In addition to the one JT posted, there's also:

YouTube - Paperlate (studio version)

and one that I'd be surprised if GAF never heard:

I've always found it strange that people - not you, but music fans in general - tend to divide their career into a Gabriel / Collins dichotomy. The transition from the prog emphasis to the pop standards was a gradual one. The first post-Gabriel album still sounds a hell of a lot like the Gabriel era. It even sounds as though Collins is trying to mimic Gabriel in his vocal delivery. And the prog elements are still present as late as Duke. I think that the full-fledged Adult Contemporary style that most associate with them is not present until Invisible Touch, which was released over ten years after Gabriel's departure.

I like that some titty baby took such umbrage with Shuttlecock as to anonymously complain to a mod and maybe even get a stupid little website shut down, and yet the Lance's Mom thread lives on. You'd think we didn't have an ignore function or something.

Cee Lo provided us a drop of water in a desert of no album news, in a mention that DM was "wrapping up the U2 project."

A passing mention in a blurb about his plans for 2011.

Thank you, Mr. Green.
