Its ok Vlad - listen to Unknown Caller beach clip, and tell me you still feel that way!

Maybe I should, I haven't listened to the beach clips for a quite a while. Maybe it'll calm me down.

Unknown Caller sounds like Walk On.

Not that I have a problem with that, I think it's their best song in the past 10 or so years....

Walk On is a very underrated track, simply amazing.

it couldnt sound any more differnet to walk on

i dont see how on earth it sounds like walk on?

In the chorus I hear some chimey Edge sounds.

i have to agree that walk on and unknown caller dont sound anything alike. walk on is a great song. in fact...ill say their performance of it during the charity concert following the 9-11 tragedy is one of their best ever live performances. gives me the chills.........bono is so intense and the intro with the peace on earth snippet is sick......

Even not knowing what the texture of the music sounds like or the "Morroccan drum loop" running throughout the song I can definitely say (as one who has listened to the beach clips many times) that Walk on doesn't hold a candle to Unknown Caller.

Ha, I used to think songs like All Because of You were better than Beautiful Day when I first heard them because I was excited when they first came out. I think you might be surprised as to which song you'll like more a few years from now.

You'll see and you'll be happy too.

Soaring choruses are a trademark of U2, many of their songs have soaring choruses.

The comparison of UC to WO has never even crossed my mind.

I agree that they sound very different, even from any kind of emotional standpoint. Walk On is a bit cloying to my ears, with a bit of forced optimism to dispel bad times. It is sentamentalist in nature. The (short) verses of UC are pretty dark/depressed, giving way to the chanting chorus with a very euphoric atmosphere.

My gut descriptions of/feeling about the songs are:

Walk On--"You can do it!"
Unknown Caller--a looming darkness that is suddenly dispelled by a brilliant light

I haven't listened to the beach clips, but I did hear Walk On last night and I forgot how good it really is. Larry's drum beat and fills, Adam's bassline, Edge's ringing guitar and Bono's evocative vocals....great great song!

If that is true, then :drool::drool:

Exactly, a U2 song isn't a U2 song without the chime...

Ahem.....they're called "bells"

Really?

I always though that Walk On was more about "just let it go man" or "walk away dude....its okay" I don't find it joyful at all...its kind of sad to me because it doesn't indicate that the subject of the song ever ends up "Walking On".

Its always been more of a song about being the "bigger person" to me. I guess thats I took from it....other's probably found something different.

Yes, I see what you are saying and I agree. "You can do it" wasn't the right quote. But it's Bono encouraging someone to get through dark times. Depending on my mood, I love it or don't care for it much based on Bono's (admittedly great and very passionate) vocal delivery and the subject matter.

But in the end, I agree with whoever said that UC is the superior song and a potential U2 classic, while I think U2 already realize that Walk On is not quite that (total live abandonment).

And which of the beach clips corresponds to which of the new songs?

I know this is a little off topic but does anyone here know when the new issue of Q will hit American shelves? I'm gonna try to pick up the U2 edition today but I won't bother going if it's not out yet.

And which of the beach clips corresponds to which of the new songs?

Beach clip 1 = Unknown Caller
Beach clip 2 = Breathe
Beach clip 3 = Get Your Boots On
Beach clip 4 = Magnificent
Beach clip 5 = possibly Crazy Tonight

Interesting. For me, though, Walk On isn't really "optimistic", it's in fact a very sad song. "Home ... that's where the hurt is" is a very sad line, the whole song has a certain bitterness about it. It's one of those songs where the music is on a different emotional and atmospheric level than the lyrics, same as Stuck in a moment.

I agree.

Read my previous post up the page about this. I totally feel the same way about the song.
