If Taylor ends up not working out, Dan Whitford could be the new Covergirl.

Actually, Little Lupe Lu was sharing the stage with Kanye, so it's easy to understand why he may not have appeared to be as good as all that.

Kanye ruins everything.

Some friends saw Lupe at a Chicago festival this past summer and said he put on one of the best hip-hop shows they've seen. I'm really hoping the inevitable tour for Lasers isn't arenas though...

I think more often than not, it's difficult to not be disappointed after seeing a hip hop show. Particularly if it's an artist you really like. They just don't remotely compare to actual "bands" in a live setting.

Martha, I only made the joke because it was so obviously untrue.

I haven't seen them in over ten years, but I imagine The Root$ still put on a killer show.

Or you could just get tickets to the Jimmy Fallon show to get a free preview.

Also, De La Soul a few years back at Pitchfork totally brought down the house.

Most definitely. I could name off tons of hip-hop artists I've seen who are fantastic live (Freddie Gibbs, Atmosphere, P.O.S., Big Boi, Mos Def, etc.), but that doesn't negate the fact that there are plenty of rappers who have horrendous live shows.

The Roots are a live band though, so that's a different beast. Just sayin'.

Snoop kicked ass last March.

Jealous. I've wanted to see him for awhile, but refuse to drop like $45 to see him when he's here.

I'll never forgive Lolla for scheduling him at the same time as Lou Reed. Why would you do that?! Two icons in their genres that a lot of people would want to see just to say, "Mofos I saw Lou Reed/Snoop Dogg." In the end there was just no way I could pass up The LOU for Snoop :(.

:tsk:

Not cool, Lolla, not cool at all.

Granted, the Kanye show was a few years ago, and Lupe was probably still learning the ropes for larger venues.

Kanye was great live.

I know, doll. I'ma just givin' you shit.

Last time I saw the Roots, they were tearing the place down. Their version of Masters of War was pretty intense.

this is why i was so hugely impressed by Jay-Z when he opened for U2 and also why i was pretty disappointed by Ice Cube. both had DJs and a co-MC, but Jay-Z had, if i'm not mistaken, three guitarists, a keyboardist, two drummers and four horn players. it was fucking incredible.

whereas Cube was good, but it was just him, WC and a DJ. and his NWA hits, Steady Mobbin', etc aren't nearly as real given the fact that he starred in a fucking kids movie a few years ago.

Also, De La Soul a few years back at Pitchfork totally brought down the house.

going to see them in Feb, they're playing ...is Dead in full.

Snoop kicked ass last March.

he's playing here in a festival with a nostalgia favourite of mine, Nelly, for $130. i'll probably go.

refuse to drop $45?!?!?! :yikes: how cheap are your shows? we'd pay at least $90 to see Snoop.

How cheap are our shows? Uh ... when I saw The National at The Electric Factory (opener: The Antlers, I think it was $25 ($35 with fees). I think the U2 tickets I got at the Linc are like $50? Something like that.

:faint: my National ticket was $75.

is that for GA or seats behind the stage? cos my GA tickets for U2 were $99 excl. fees, and $40 excl. fees for behind the stage.

Also, U.S. dollars are not equivalent to Australian dollars.

Friggin' exchange rate.

Friggin' Cobbler.

well they pretty much are equivalent at the moment, no? i don't keep abreast of the economy but i think our dollar has been buying between 95 and 100 US cents for months.

and did you hear that i went to The National by myself? you should be very proud.

i'm very glad i didn't end up getting tickets to that festival by myself either, because both Cee-Lo and Monae have pulled out.

OK, I stand corrected.

I could be wrong, Cobbler, but aren't concert prices more expensive in Australia and New Zealand because of your geographic location? I mean, in my mind it makes sense that ticket prices are higher due to the expenses incurred by the artist.

And yes, I'm proud of you for going by yourself, Cobbler.:therethere:

look geographic locations is probably the sole reason that we have to pay so much for shows. and it makes perfect sense really, because a lot of the bands i love who i've seen recently are from North America and it costs money to get all their shit over. it just sucks because it's a hell of a lot to spend and you all talk about seeing these awesome shows and festivals constantly, and i miss many of them because of ticket prices.

so really, i'm just having a hissy fit. but $55 for a U2 GA ticket in the US and then $120 for the same ticket here is a bullshit. it cost me $500 including flights to see U2 twice in Melbourne and once in Brisbane.

If it's any consolation, I hardly get to any shows, be it because of no transportation, poor timing, or awful luck. The National was the only actual show I saw this year, other than a couple tiny festivals.

Is Australia's economy realllly bad or something? Because it's not just concert tickets you guys seem to have to pay more for. Daniel was just saying the other day new games are like $80, no?

Others have already answered this, but I'll jump in quick too. Here's an example...I just bought tickets for 3 concerts earlier this week: School of Seven Bells ($12), Toro y Moi ($8), and Cut Copy ($20). After the nominal in-store fee for using a credit card, the total was $45.

Soooo, yeah, I'm a cheap ass when it comes to concerts because I've been incredibly spoiled by the Minneapolis scene, which has a great mix of small and larger venues, resulting in a range of concert prices. I'm lucky enough to have the options of having concerts constantly and (for the artists I want to see, generally) concerts aren't more than $30 (last time I paid that was for Andrew Bird at First Avenue in December). Shit, even my Girl Talk ticket for March was only $20...

I'm impressed by your dedication in going to concerts at all with those kinds of prices, Danny.

Oh! But, I had another reason for coming in here...just saw this on Fleet Foxes' Facebook:

Announcements coming SOON, thank you for waiting and caring. The record is totally done and mastered and has been for a bit. XO Robin
