OK, boys and girls, I have a GA line story to tell you from Tulsa.
So I show up at the BOK Center around 1:00, and I see absolutely no one anywhere. I went inside to the ticket window and asked an employee where the GA line was. She says, “it’s at the other entrance, but you can use either door.” Huh. I went to get in the GA line, where there were probably 200 people in front of me, thinking I would get a number. It turned out they weren’t giving out numbers anymore, so I got in line, still pondering the deserted other entrance.
I started chatting with the guys in front of me, and I mentioned to them about my experience at the ticket window and how there was no one there. They said said they really wanted a rail, and so did I, so we hatched a plan. When it looked like it was almost time to go in, they went to check it out while I held our spot in case our plan failed and they really wouldn’t let GA in through the other door. They eventually texted me and said there were other GA people at that door and there really were no rules about a designated GA entrance, but the staff said not to tell anyone because there would have been chaos.
I then discreetly ditched the fan line, where I would have been #200-something, had there been numbers, and hiked over to the other door, where I was FOURTH IN LINE. (There were multiple metal detectors with people lined up at each one). We went through security, got down to the floor, grabbed rails, and watched a lot of people who had been way ahead of us in the other line trickle in, while high-fiving and being amazed that this was actually happening.
So if I hadn’t started out at the wrong door, I never would have accidentally found out that it was actually the right door.
I would like to thank my co-conspirators for a job well done and for making our rail dreams come true.
Names have been omitted in case anyone is mad.
