Ok, now how is this different than payola days? Sure, more people paid attention to charts (and more still probably do than we're willing to admit), but really? Charts have always been fixed. Soundscan, anyone? There are many reasons certain albums chart and others don't, and it has a lot to do with the demographics of which record stores/sales are counted into Soundscan. And, please, Morrissey...get out of your cocoon and listen to some music outside your comfort zone. There's plenty of social commentary (lots of it is even damn good) going on in music today. Compare "Meat is Murder" to dead prez's "Be Healthy," and you're looking at a very similar message.
For the record, Morrissey bothers me more often than not, especially when he opens his mouth in interviews.
