Random Music Thread XXXIV: Shouter cares more than you do

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
I have accepted this about you, Imp. Much like I accept that my friend's mother always says, "It may be 9 o'clock for you, but it's 11 o'clock for me" for the entire 10 days that she visits.

Well, thanks for taking me as I am. Honestly, I can't really differentiate between Laz and I continuing to use Shuttlecock lingo and the infinite times someone has said "no need to add, Sicy," posted Laz Pan, called Lance's mother a whore, hated on Elfa (and all of Canada), friggin' Cobbler'd, etc etc etc. We are all guilty of beating every Interference meme into the ground.

I've got a bad(minton) feeling about this...

Why I should stick my cock out for you is far beyond my capacity.

Internet People Power. I think he's talking about us.

That entire section was so fantastic that I'm going to quote it:

Pitchfork: What's your take on how the music business has changed over the last 30 years-- with more focus on touring and less on making albums-- do you think it's generally for better or worse?

M: Obviously, it's much worse because the entire "industry"-- as it must be called-- has been destroyed in a thousand ways. The Internet has obviously wiped music off the human map-- killed the record shop, and killed the patience of labels who consider debut sales of 300,000 to not be good enough. People no longer know the top 75 charts, and what they do know of them they don't trust because chart-placings are so fixed-- everyone on the planet mysteriously flies in at number one now. The music press has died because of Internet People Power-- everyone is now their own expert critic. As a consequence there are no risks taken with music anymore-- no social commentary songs, no individualism. This is because everyone is deemed instantly replaceable.

Pitchfork: Do you think there's a lack of respect for veteran artists like yourself within the business?

M: Not necessarily. Most people who have been around for over 10 years are seldom relevant. It's difficult to think of anyone at all who has remained credible. I suppose everyone has their fill of fame and finds it to be slightly ludicrous, after all. I remember David Bowie saying how he went into the RCA building at Curzon Street in London at the time of Young Americans and he was asked to show his ID at the door! It's funny and sad at the same time.

Morrissey says a lot of crap I like.
And a lot of crap I don't like.

Captain Toobing.
I'm totally going to call him this from now on.

It takes absolutely no extra effort to call everything by its Cockified name, I still get a kick out of it, and it occasionally sparks a good call-back or new joke. So who gives a fuck? Not hurting anybody, so no reason to be a little titty bitch about it.
The Cockified names don't bother me.

The only time I don't like the Cockified names is if I can't figure out what song is being referred to. For instance, I had to watch the Youtube video to find out what song: 'Cock (Not coming down)' was.

Otherwise, I find them somewhat humorous or clever. No big deal.

One of our worst titles for sure, although I liked my take on the lyrics. Unfortunately the one syllable ones are tough. "Won" and "Bad(minton)" sort of fell into our laps.

I'm not positive, but I think that title is mine. You get the erection/lobbed shuttlecock parallel there, but the parentheses feel cheap to me. 4.7/10.

They are cheap, but not many other options. I guess we could have gone with "Bone" and just made it strictly Lance's Mom material.

Was never a big fan of "Swing", either. Same solution as the last one, as we could have used "Breed".

It's not too late to make changes (especially with our official lyric repository now gone); last week I altered "Serve On" (Play On?) to "Chalk On" and still managed to retain the badminton aesthetic.

Ok, now how is this different than payola days? Sure, more people paid attention to charts (and more still probably do than we're willing to admit), but really? Charts have always been fixed. Soundscan, anyone? There are many reasons certain albums chart and others don't, and it has a lot to do with the demographics of which record stores/sales are counted into Soundscan. And, please, Morrissey...get out of your cocoon and listen to some music outside your comfort zone. There's plenty of social commentary (lots of it is even damn good) going on in music today. Compare "Meat is Murder" to dead prez's "Be Healthy," and you're looking at a very similar message.

For the record, Morrissey bothers me more often than not, especially when he opens his mouth in interviews.

He's talking about major labels and mainstream artists I assume. He is in his 50's after all, he can actually remember when major labels and mainstream radio mattered. Based on the type of artists I've seen open for him, he certainly knows there's decent music in the indie world.

The only SC memes that bother me are the obvious ones, like "Joshua Cock." Surely you can do better than that.

Moz definitely seems to me to wax nostalgic quite often, especially in musical terms. The only artists that I have seen him mention in interviews in a positive manner are the likes of Bowie, Roxy Music, and the New York Dolls. It is a strange but endearing element of his personality that he is at once a romantic and an incorrigible cynic.

iYup, what are you doing tonight? Come see Low with us. (GAF and IYS, you're invited as well)

Thanks for the invite, but I'm occupied with work matters. I also have never heard anything by Low, which needs to change. Where are they playing?

I've never heard anything either, but the show's free . Jay Pritzker Pavilion. Work is lame, iYup.

Damn, right in Millennium Park. That summer concert series that they have there is looking excellent. I'm still a bit pissed that I couldn't make it to Iron & Wine a few weeks ago.

I'm a little bit pissed that I didn't know about it myself. More than a little, actually.

Thermals/Swell Season guy is opening, but we're going to miss a good chunk of his set. Curious anyway; I always liked Swell Season.

And yes, do listen to Low sometime. Things We Lost In The Fire

Keep cockifying. It makes me laugh, and with nearby Los Alamos under mandatory evacuations, every little thing helps. :(

Wait, why are you singling me out?

Imperor and I have been locked in this staring contest since the beginning, even if he tends to post less about Shuttlecock.

Because you do it a lot more than he does, since he more or less doesn't like the band much anymore.....and because he's got 2 six guns.

Pretending someone would be moved enough by badminton and/or prostitutes is still funny to me in the same way tailoring Star Wars references to other topics continues to be. And lord knows we get on that jag fairly often. I make no apologies for my continued shuttlecockery.

You don't need to apologize for it, you should do what you like....but how can you possibly not see how it could be a little annoying to some? I'm sure tons of shit I say annoys people on here.....maybe I care, maybe I don't, but I certainly am not shocked when it comes to light.

And since I actually like talking about the band, and Laz is a fan, it sometimes makes it hard to know just what the fuck he's talking about. Can't believe this is hard to understand.

Awwww yeah, Cassie all up in this bitch.

Remember how incredibly huge Coolio was in the mid-90s? The guy was inescapable, and then he just vanished.

He's still touring! He's been through Minneapolis, like, twice in the past year. It's weird.

You know what annoys me more? The Lance's Mom shit.

 Yeah, finally, the Random thread's title changed. The whole "Rapture"/sorta rape connotation wasn't amusing to me.

This is what you get for pulling me back, Mike.

This needs to be emphasized. I'm more intimidated by the guy driving a stagecoach who may moonlight as Detlef Schrempf and/or Ron Swanson than I am by the guy floating by on a tire whose biggest claim to fame is getting props from Pete Campbell.

I don't think that I understood a single reference in this post.

Translation: Little Lord Piss is scared of Impy. Captain Toobing (Laz), not so much.
