So maybe I'm weird but I'm actually happy they didn't do shows in pairs with highly varied setlists or I would have felt left out not being able to see pairs of shows. I did see three shows within one week and even with the base setlist not varying much or at all, I think I enjoyed myself more than the previous two tours. Part of that was probably the ease of the GA experience and the weather not being unbearably hot for my shows, or literally freezing.

That's fine, but its something that has been discussed to death

I don't aim to wade into the rights or wrongs of the discussion; I was just pointing out that you and some other people keep repeating something that's actually wrong. The tour announcement explicitly indicated two different shows with a quote from Bono. You can still find it on U2.com, reproduced on U2gigs, etc. That's all.

I'd say in general Vertigo's third leg was more adventurous than the first, but in terms of variation during lengthy runs (like those 5 consecutive NYC shows), they didn't go that nuts with changing up the order. I think Chicago 4 on the first leg had a more surprising altered order, as did Dublin 3 on the second leg. It had a very unusual set for the stadium leg, with the only European performances of Gloria or An Cat Dubh/Into The Heart. Gloria still hasn't been played in Europe since Lovetown, outside of that one show!

All 8 of my Vertigo shows were that leg, and it was just an amazing run, setlist wise, so I think my (unfair, probably) bias comes into play, when judging other legs of tours. I honestly feel very privileged to have seen the shows I did, that tour/leg.

Apropos of nothing, Setlistfm has a feature where you can select a tour to find out an "average" setlist of any band on a tour. I looked at one for U2 for this leg, and it's funny. Doesn't take into account spots that are totally static or interchangable. So, for example, they had both Gloria and Electric Co in U2's setlist for this tour.

I'm really not sure what I'll do for an Australian leg. There are a bunch of songs I really want to see, mainly from the rotations. On the other hand, I don't care to go to a whole bunch of gigs to get near-identical sets in the hope of one big surprise in the rotations. If I'm going to buy tickets to multiple shows, I really want to see some changes from night to night. I don't mean an entirely different set, but I do mean not hearing the same nineteen songs every night for four or six or whatever nights.

 I was stuck at work for most of the night.

I haven't caught up yet, but I'm assuming this was needed at some point.

I think the thing to do is to realize which band it is that you are going to see, go in expecting fairly static setlists, and then be pleasantly surprised if it's not.

Hey I love this band more than anything...but I'd take a more varied set list any day of the week. You can't be everything to everyone; the concept of playing the same 20 songs each night so someone doesn't get 'left out' is a lame excuse. (And the majority of those songs have been in heavy rotation for two decades now) They aren't a movie or a play where everything is supposed to be the exact same night after night and you know exactly what you get. But this band operates in their comfort zone with the stage show and I get it. I don't expect a lot of variety, but I also don't try and excuse their uninspired set list.

I was hoping Bruce was going to do guest vocals on Lemon just for the falsetto part.
