is that like his near rape conviction?

Are you just trying to be funny again? Have you even read anything about this case?

Had this actually gone to trial, and resulted in a prolonged jury deliberation, then maybe you could use a term like "near rape conviction". But that never happened, because the witness wouldn't testify. It's pretty clear from all the information that her admittance of lying during her deposition would have made a conviction very difficult.

that also said... orlando needs to completely restructure their roster. they have a guy down low who should be part of a brute force front line, have a defensive minded coach, and they surround him with a finese team. they need to bring in another big to play with howard to take care of all the dirty work... the oakley to his ewing, so to speak. and the vince carter move was simply a disaster for everyone involved, and now they're locked in to that awful contract for a while.

Carter's got another year left and a team option after that, which isn't the worst thing in the world. Lewis has three years left on his max deal. I expect Brandon Bass to play more next year, as he should've all of this year. Their upcoming free agents:

Barnes
Redick
White Chocolate
Johnson (Gone)
Foyle (Gone)

They need another strong big man in their rotation, even if he's just a 4th option. Hopefully they can resign Barnes and Redick and find a way to go after the aforementioned big man and a quality defensive point guard as Nelson's sub.

When Lamar plays well, the Lakers win.

Lamar should have a good series, and I'll take L.A. in 7. :cabbagepatch:

Yeah, I figured as much.

You should ask him about Monday's lacrosse final, I think Notre Dame played some other famous team...

What does everyone think of this "free agent summit" thingy? And speaking of racist, why wasn't Dirk invited?

you figured what?

kobe was never convicted of rape... it never even went to trial. so me saying a "near-conviction" of rape is a silly, stupid, meaningless thing.

keeping track of someone's "near-triple doubles" is a silly thing, too. almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades, as the saying goes.

and for the record, yes... i followed the kobe case very closely, not that it matters whatsoever.

it's an idea that oozes of soemthing that diane wade would think up.

and yea... dirk is much better than bosh or joe johnson. he should be in the meeting. but i suppose people just don't think dirk is ever gonna leave dallas.

Yeah, Kobe's not a rapist. He's just another guy who cheats on his wife. Awesome!

Better that then a guy whose teammate screws his mom.

Also, Kobe's a guy who cheated, not cheats. Wife is still with him. She could have split and picked up a hefty settlement. If they patched things up, that should be good enough for anyone else.

She couldn't possibly have stayed with him because the lifestyle and status and $4million dollar "I'm sorry I forced that girl to have anal relations with me against her will, but it wasn't rape" diamond rings add up to more than the hefty divorce settlement would have though, right?
They're certainly madly in love and hopelessly devoted to each other now, just like those crazy kids Tiger and Elin, right.

Just because his wife patched things up with him doesn't change what type of person HE is.... a guy who cheats/cheated on his wife. But who really cares, right? He wins championships and that's all that matters. Character, whether it's Kobe, LeBron, or anyone else, is lost on most current athletes.

Regardless, I still think Kobe's the best player in the game. It comes down to him and LeBron and if I had to choose one for a "winner take all game," I'll take Kobe every day.

Hope it's a great series! If it's as half as exciting as it is in the forum, we're in for a hell of a show!

Right. Cheating on your spouse in any way is the same as sleeping with a roster of porn stars/strippers/skanks that becomes public. This isn't in the same ballpark as Magic Johnson's dalliances, yet you'd have us all believe he's on the level of Wilt Chamberlain.

And of course, couples NEVER actually patch things up after an infidelity. There's always some kind of greed involved in staying together.

Nice moral relativism you two have there.

I don't really see Dirk leaving either...but if I'm signing 2 max guys and one is Lebron (or Wade), the 2nd guy I want is Dirk. Certainly Dirk over Joe freaking Johnson, how the hell did he weasel his way into this?

YouTube - Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley McDonalds "Nothing But Net"

Joe Johnson is clearly Barkley...

Fact is I don't know, I put my statement out specifically as a counter to yours because my guess is you don't know either what the true status of their relationship is.

Haven't seen that commercial in ages.
Couple of observations:

1. Jordan's shirt is fugly. Who the hell put him in that?

B. Barkley was rather svelte, half the man he is now.

Third: Joe Johnson will never even be close to Barkley status, why he's in on the "summit" is baffling. Of course the whole "Summit" is baffling...imagine if the owners were doing the same thing...collusion lawsuits would abound.

And I mentioned the marriage because U2ME3 dismissed him as "just another guy who cheats on his wife". I mean, by that classification, you're probably talking about half the married male population, and 90% of married professional athletes. Why single him out? He had rough sex with someone, and she tried to ruin his life so she could get money out of it. That makes him more deserving of scorn than Magic Johnson, who admitted to sleeping with hundreds of women (at least)?

And back to your point, staying with Kobe for the money doesn't make too much sense because once you have that much, the extra amount isn't worth losing your freedom to someone you don't trust/don't love anymore/whatever. Why didn't Jordan's wife stay in that case?

You all hate the guy. I get it. But leave the self-righteous finger pointing out of it, that's all I'm saying, especially when others are guilty of far worse.

Bill Simmons' podcast with J.A. Adande about sizing up this series is pretty awesome.

Again, we can't know the motivation of each woman, so what Jordan's wife decided to do, what Tiger's wife ultimately decides to do and what Kobe's wife opted for have little to do with one another.

As for hating Kobe, not the case for me. I don't hate him or any player (probably came the closest with Bill Laimbeer back in the 80's, but I actually like Laimbeer's personality off court a lot). I'm a fan of the Celtics, so I choose to root against Kobe and the Lakers at this point, I have no hatred toward him, I respect his game a lot, I do not however have a lot of respect for him as a person based on the whole Colorado thing etc. But as you said many athletes and others fall into that category. I can separate the two and choose to enjoy watching certain athletes play, but would not choose to associate with them if the opportunity arose.

I have never mentioned anything about rape or Kobe's marriage while calling him an asshole. He's enough of a dick without that shit for me not to care.
