Assuming U2 do an anniversary show or tour for Achtung Baby (of course, they might not), what would you like to see in the setlist?

I know some posters in the previous thread discussed a ZooTV anniversary tour - that idea isn't interesting to me. The band wouldn't be able to top or even match the spectacle of the original, it would be futile to try, and I don't think they could pull off the ironic rock star thing anymore. I think they should just focus on the music. Achtung definitely stands on its own without ZooTV.

So here's my idea: A one-off show in a Berlin club, broadcast live online. I think a one-off is a good idea, because the band could give the show their all and avoid getting exhausted out on the road. Bare bones stage setup, to contrast with ZooTV. Just a moderately sized video screen for projecting images behind the band, and an interesting light show. You know, like a normal band with a normal budget.

For the setlist, I'm following the same format as JT30. A few opening songs, then the full album, then an encore. I tried to include a song from every project that I felt was related to Achtung in some way. So there's something from Rattle and Hum, Zooropa, Passengers and Pop. (Slow Dancing is probably the oddest choice, but it has an interesting history, originating in 1989 and then being recorded in 1993 and 1997... it's also a lovely song.) And then I added some fun snippet ideas to some songs. Finally, I also included Streets, Beautiful Day and Vertigo. Cause it's a U2 show. People want to hear those songs.

Setlist:

01. Zooropa
02. Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me
03. Stay (Faraway, So Close!) / Two Shots of Happy (snippet)
04. Zoo Station
05. Even Better Than the Real Thing
06. One
07. Until the End of the World / Lady with the Spinning Head (snippet)
08. Who’s Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses
09. So Cruel
10. The Fly / God Part II (snippet)
11. Mysterious Ways
12. Tryin’ to Throw Your Arms Around the World
13. Ultraviolet (Light My Way)
14. Acrobat
15. Love is Blindness

16. Last Night on Earth
17. Vertigo / Discotheque (snippet)
18. Desire / Night and Day (snippet)
19. Slow Dancing
20. Your Blue Room
21. Where the Streets Have No Name
22. Beautiful Day / Satellite of Love (snippet)

Notes: Zooropa is full band, full rendition. Love is Blindness is acoustic solo by Edge (I know, this means no guitar solo, but I love Edge's solo version and I think it would be cool if the last song we hear from Bono on Achtung is Acrobat). Slow Dancing is acoustic. The rest are electric (including Stay and Desire).

So what do you think? Is my show idea and setlist a big load of crap? Dirty Day should really have a place in the setlist, shouldn't it? Tell me all about your ideas, I want to hear them too.

The setlist is wonderful. The idea of having love is blindness be acoustic, however, is a big load of crap

The setlist is great, but a lot of it would just never happen. For example, I can't ever imagine them opening the show with Zooropa (if they were even to play it). In typical U2 fashion, they would open the show with 4 warhorses. Then do AB in sequence, and then end on 5/6 more warhorses.

The idea of them playing HMTMKMKM is great, and one I have mentioned before too. They need to play this. It was one of their biggest hits, and one of their best songs period. Why they favour Miss Sarajevo over this is beyond me.

Stay is too early in the set. Even full band, it would kill the energy. They could probably get away with opening with the album and pushing the opening slots to the end of the show .

Gonna go the same way the Joshua tree tour did , 4 big hitters first then the record then 6 songs after the album

1 where the streets have no name
2 New Year's Day
3 pride
4 with or without you

5 -16 achtung baby

17 zooropa
18 hold me thrill me kiss me kill me
19 discotheque
20 Stay

21 beautiful day
22 vertigo

If they didn’t open with Zoo Station, then I think it would be odd to open with later 90s more experimental songs and then AB. I think it takes away from how jarring and a departure the album was. Plus I would snippet Spinning Head with one of the songs it gave birth to...

But a great collection of songs [emoji106]

Thank you. And I thought that one might be a bad call. ;)

HMTMKMKM was easily the highlight of the show I saw in 2011. I think it should be played at every full concert. Could easily take the place of Mysterious Ways or Elevation or whatever else they've played to death.

Stay is too early in the set. Even full band, it would kill the energy.
True.

I really like this. Simple, to the point, covers all the bases. Opening the second set with Zooropa makes sense. I might drop Pride for I Will Follow or Desire, though... Something higher energy and more fun. Would also be nice if there were room for Miss Sarajevo or Your Blue Room, maybe after Stay.

Plus I would snippet Spinning Head with one of the songs it gave birth to...
Fair enough. I was just thinking the "la la la" part at the end of UTEOTW could easily turn into the chorus of Lady with the Spinning Head.

As long as Acrobat is present in each night's set list then I am not bothering what other songs they play.

I think Streets into Zoo Station would be epic, but I think Still Haven’t Found in between would be a little weird.

But what are you doing with slot 18?

My only request would be to start the show with some Rattle and Hum. And a longer show.

01 - God, Pt. II
02 - Desire

04 - Zoo Station
