LP13: New Improved and now Fisher-free!

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

IMO regular posters on this forum with 10000+ posts seem to not take to kindly to new members or members who aren't posting on this forum 24/7. In regards to derailing this thread I'm not sure if serious because I come on here most days and have no idea what the hell you regulars are talking about as alot of the time its off topic. JMO
I stopped reading the vast majority of waffle on here and just go to the last page to see if the topic is even slightly related to U2.

Just out of interest was the u2 ipod unveiled the same day as the ipod or was it later? Wouldnt apple want all attention to themselves on the 9th of the 9th?

So I had a dream that U2 just kicked off a promo gig with a virtually unchanged rendition of "Glastonbury." When the crowd didn't react well (and people on here started jumping off the cliff anticipating North Star and new mercy for the album) the band looked shaken. Afterwards Bono admitted "a couple weeks ago" there were feelings in the band that there "weren't enough hits." The failed promo gig gave them severe pause and they were considering putting everything on hold for awhile so they could "find the perfect pop song."

:(

That dream sucked.

I had a dream that I kept getting nominated for the Ice Bucket Challenge. Let's just say that it was a very wet dream.

Let's be honest, we are 90% sure that the album is coming in 2 months max. So why they are holding the news so much? Why not even an annoucement? Not even a name?
There is a chance they are preparing something very special to promote the new album. I sometimes think if they are maybe stuck in the past on how to promote the new album, and somebody in the management is trying to change that, and because of this conflict, there were Invisible and then a delay, and then no news up until now.
Is it possible they are lost on how to present this new album?

I'm finding it pretty hilarious that anyone would think I was remotely serious that they should go to another forum...and also that high post count is some sort of badge that should be coveted! Lol #whatlltheythinkofnext

People keep saying this and it makes no sense.
If Apple is going to do a huge live event for an hour or so, and 5 minutes of it is saying that they are partnering with their friends U2 again to kick off their new Apple/Beats streaming service - that in NO way takes anything away from what Apple is doing.

It doesn't mean U2 is performing a song, it doesn't mean they would even play a song from them on the video screens. Or give them a half hour like they did for the ipod. It doesn't need to be the "U2 show" in order for them to have a tie-in on the 9th.

Even if they say - U2's new single - Insecurity, will be streaming for 24 hours and available for download after the end of this event. It takes absolutely nothing away from what they are talking about. It only enhances it.

I still (having been saying this for two months now) think that there is a good chance we get at least a single on the 9th. I hold out hope that its a whole surprise album drop.

So what did I miss:

Beach Clips?
Album Release Date?
Single?
Single's Video Premiere?
Album drop?
Tour Dates?
Tix?

:hyper:

Ok, I'm probably the biggest proponent of a U2/Apple partnership. But I just don't see how this makes any sense.
Unless they are saying it comes preloaded and is only "active" for a limited time, or maybe you get some sort of discount to download the album if you buy the phone...
I just can't imagine that U2 giving away 6 million copies of their album makes any kind of sense. The album wouldn't hardly chart cause half the people that would have bought it would already have it on their new iphone.

I'm not a marketing genius. Can anyone else think of a scenario where they could preload the album and still somehow get "sales" to put them on Billboard?
Giving away six million albums doesn't make your album go 6X's platinum. It makes it go - 0.

So who is this guy who is saying it will be preloaded on the album?

Jay Z did it with Samsung. The buzz created was huge, and nobody cared that the albums didn't count against the charts. And it still sold 500,000+ copies in week 1.

Not to mention that Android has a 65.6% world wide market share... plus not everyone is running out to upgrade their old iPhone... So there's still a shit load of albums to be bought.

Everyone's just tweeting stuff now in the vain hope of being 'the one' who knows.

It's cute.

I hope you're right. Cause Jay-Z packs a little more punch than U2 at the moment.

I guess it just gives me pause since they gave away Invisible for free to 3 million people. And it didn't break the top 15 on iTunes download chart, or make any noticeable showing on the hot100.

I trust they would still sell a decent amount, and you may be right that the buzz would hopefully counter the fact of putting out that many albums out there.

I think the smartest thing they could do would be to put it on the phone preloaded, but make it so you can only stream it and you can't skip songs, and obviously you can't burn it to any other media.
This might just then make a person with a new iphone still buy a regular version cause they like it but they want the flexibility of a regular download.

lordy. could we be that close?

Honestly, surely not without something newsworthy leaking out. All we have is hearsay and the odd snippet of vague insider comment. Nothing concrete.

Again, if on the slight chance that this turns out to be true, it is more likely than not based on speculation and not grounded in fact or insider info.
