I notice that any U2 rumor that is presented, you doubt and do not believe. Perhaps all of the lies and delays have given you clarity that others around here do not have. Give in to your anger and believe the rumors. With each passing moment you make yourself more Bono's servant.

Everything that has transpired has done so according to Bono's design.

Your friends, in this forum, are walking into a trap of hope.. It was "Adam" who allowed them all to believe the album would ready by last December.Yet, it is quite far from completed by your pitiful little band. An entire legion of distraction awaits them and it will never be finished.

Now, you will pay the price for your lack of vision!

P.S. Oh, and I am afraid the deflector shield will be fully operational when your friends arrive (okay, that doesn't fit the narrative but he says it like such a D*ck that I just love that line)

Bono's overconfidence is his weakness.

ok i admit i giggled when i read this

It's amazing how U2 releases a single, get themselves on two magazine covers, and have several interviews all to create publicity for the fact that they don't have an album coming out in the future.

I'm not trying to imply that there's a surprise release imminent. I'm trying to imply that they have questionable judgment.

This is also mind boggling to me.

I still think that the most likely reality is that this looks confused and rudderless simply because it is confused and rudderless.

No great mystery, no amazing genius master plan. It looks like a lot of it is on the fly... because it probably is. Everything is a bit messed up because an album was pushed back, a one-off song opportunity pushed its way in and perhaps turned out to be more successful/commercial then they anticipated, a huge promo opportunity was too big to cancel/impossible to postpone etc. They’re just doing the now standard last minute freak-out/push it back by a few months album delay, but the only unique thing is that this time they have these other things buzzing around and it’s probably as annoying for them as it is frustrating for us. They have to push and promote these things, which means they have to at least acknowledge the album elephant-in-the-room, but they’d probably rather not and would much prefer to have no spotlight right now. Its applying pressure and all of this ‘the return of U2’ now is chipping away at the hype-blast they’d like later.

Wow! Great post  I think you could be right about this. With that said, what a huge opportunity to be inserted into public consciousness without any album to back it up looks so amateurish at least to me.

I think Adam summed it up best when he said for U2 it's all about the songs these days, not albums. In their eyes, the key to staying relevant is more about getting songs on the radio than it is about the album. This is the promotional tour for this song. Then, I'm assuming we'll have another promotional tour when the next song ... the "official" lead single is released. If you look at it that way, this all could make sense.

With that said, this all seems a bit fishy to me. Because, when it comes time to promote the next single and the album there will be nothing they can do to top what they're doing now. There will be no SuperBowl, and there won't be Jimmy Fallon's first night on the Tonight Show. Meanwhile they claim to be still working on the album while Bono travels the world, and their producer isn't available. I still think a surprise release is possible as early as next week. It would get them mentioned on virtually every newscast in America, a regular album release will not.

We'll see.

hold your horses... top it where exactly? you do realise the "Tonight Show" is pretty much meaningless to ROW? (and i won't get into the whole super bowl vs. ROW debate again)

I dunno.. they were arranging this Super Bowl ad last fall, when they supposedly had to put the album on hold.

I think the band is too big, too aware of past mistakes, to move blindly through a crucial time like this. I think still, they know exactly what they're doing.

Dangermouse has probably done all that he's going to do and the band are finishing it off by fine-tuning it themselves. Either that or they are waiting for him to finish touring to continue with the album, but that would mean they would be sitting on their hands for months.

Or they're going to call in will.i.am or someone to, uhh, adjust it.

I see what you're saying and agree with it. But the fight to get their stuff played isn't as tough in the rest of the world. Where they struggle to cut through the clutter is America.

I think you're right. If they're waiting on him we'll be lucky to have the album by Christmas.

Bonotine?

Honestly, if you forget Invisible, the super bowl ad and then Tonight Show for a second...

The rest if it (the magazine articles) is actually pretty normal pre U2 album release activity.

Sent from my android cause iphones are for old people

This doesn't make much sense because they did Invisible, the super bowl and doing the tonight show. I think your missing the point.

I don't think he's missing any point, I think he's just calling out a general observation.

Maybe this is the usual post-Pop cold feet, but I'm really starting to get the sense they're preparing this to be their final album.

Well this could be their final album ESP if it flops. Bono has always said two shit albums and we are out hence why I think there is so much hesitation in the U2 camp. They are really scared of having another flop back to back.

I think they will still make music. But this may be the last big world tour.

I just think they finished the album, heard the songs, maybe jimmy didn't think there was a hit or the songs were too out there (tho he oversaw Boots single)

It will be done in the fall. Tour to follow in spring, arenas.

U2 dropped the ball with the early promotion stuff cause they backed out, but rather than embarrass themselves with the news of canceling all this promo stuff, they gave us a glimpse of the album.

All my opinion of course

I've been thinking for a long time now that this tour will be the last one. Which is why I'm so intent on making as many gigs as possible.

I've kinda thought that myself.
