Absolutely. There's this perception that The Edge is the sole creative force of U2, and that Bono is more concerned about his extracurricular activities than making music. But anyone who's even a quasi-serious fan of this band and has followed them over the years, knows just how much U2 means to Bono, and the degree of artistic input he brings to the table in the creative process.
I never meant to say anything about extra-curriculars, I just meant that I was surprised because I never thought he's not ... what would you say, an "accomplished" musician. I never thought he was quite good enough of a music writer to be able to direct the others, and it's true in some cases when he's just yelling things like "be abstract" and "sound wiry!" I guess I just assumed it wouldn't translate that well into musically directing the band.

I always fear when a artist runs out of ideas (at least in the us) they go country.

It's not $o much they run out of idea$ and go country. It's that they know they can go to Nashville and $till have a career and maintain their fame by $taying in the $potlight. And you know, return to their root$...or $omething.

Bono would proly offer some made up logic to why u2 would go country. Hows its been part of who they are. Lol. Oh that they have always had alot in common with those people.

I guess their getting close to just being a part time band now.

They have been a part-time band for some time now. Maybe this works better for them than being a full-time band? It's not only Bono who has extra-curricular activities, in fact, all of them have side projects and other interests. This isn't a negative thing, in fact, it can be quite relieving to have a life besides being in a band and making music with that band.

still got my fingers crossed for an album out of nowhere by the end of the year

It's because country is the soul music of working class whites, of course, which is exactly what U2 are. :D

Seriously though, I was brought up on old school country and it's not all shit. There's a very soft spot for Dwight Yoakham somewhere in my heart.

He's going to babble about Africa and probably his Tax "scandal" issue to make a point and set teh record straight for the masses. Oh...and that they're "lost in the music" again.

He won't say jack shit about "the new album" (quotes to indicate my doubts that it even exists at this stage) but he'll charm the proverbial knickers off all and sundry and we'll all come on here Friday morning and squee like 14-year-old girls at a One Direction "concert" (quotes to indicate my doubts that those even exist in the true sense of the word).

Also: YAY!!!! B on TV!! WOOOOOOOOOOT!!!!!! *praysfortightpants*:heart::drool:

He will proclaim that the band has 500 songs ready for release!

Really though, kind of a weird time for Bono to appear on Letterman. Is he promoting a book or something? Is there something other than music that's big in the news for Bono right now? I honestly don't pay attention to and don't care what the band does outside of music, so I'm genuinely curious.

...that Adam and his new bride are on their honeymoon in Calcutta, Edge is on fire and Larry is still in Nice getting drunk night after night. But that the Album is nearly there...

This.

To expect anything more than a passing vague reference that sounds exciting but ultimately means nothing (and causes doubt about the album release being soon) is foolhardy.
I'd REALLY like to hear some talk about actual music, and not name-dropping of various politicians. Can we at least get a song title? A lyric? Anything?

I don't think it'll be anything ont he new album, or whatever 'tax scandal'... but it's most likely going to be Africa :blahblah: as usual.

My source informs me that Bono's walk to his seat on Letterman will actually be a subtle form of interpretive dance. Keep your minds OPEN and your eyes PEELED.

Full disclosure: my source is a bowl of alphabet soup.

If Bono doesn't give us at least a song title or two chords of a riff, I'm assuming that they played Every Breaking Wave, Glastonbury, North Star and Mercy for the folks in NY in June and that they actually don't have shit-all recorded yet.
