Dave Warner stood down from the Champions Trophy match for punching Joe Root in a bar.

I think he should be commended for punching a Pommie Bastard, but that's just me...

First Onions now Root? Next we'll find out that the entire English cricket team are vegetables.

Good game so far for the Bombers, though Gold Coast really picking up late in the second. Daniher's been awesome tonight.

How the hell did I post that in this thread rather than the AFL one? I'm not even drunk!

I'm simply baffled by the timing. Obviously things aren't going too flash for Australia, but sacking the coach right before the Ashes hardly seems to be the most well-considered response.

Chris Martin retired. Sad day for NZ cricket. I really love the bloke; very humble, acknowledges his flaws. This is a really good interview with Cricinfo.

NZ's best bowler outside of Hadlee and Vettori, finished with 233 wickets at 33.8. Not a great average, but I really admired his spirit, kept steaming in despite being as good as your Steyns, McGraths and so on. And the humour with which he carried himself in terms of his batting was great. Major respect

Meanwhile Aussie top-order did very well against Worcestershire, and Jackson Bird (who should get a gig in the first test in my opinion) took 4/48.

Here's the order I'd run with, though remember I'm quite anti-Watson.

Cowan
Rogers
Hughes
Clarke
Khawaja
Watson/Warner - think they've both been massive dickheads, but I don't think any other player has proven themselves enough yet to get the gig ahead of Watson or Warner
Haddin
Siddle
Pattinson
Lyon
Bird
12th Starc

I'm quite anti watson too - however he has been confirmed to open with rogers.

I'd say the following will be pretty close:

Rogers
Watson
Hughes
Clarke
Smith
Warner / Khawaja
Haddin
Starc
Siddle
Pattinson
Lyon

Personally, I'm not upset about leaving any of Cowan, Warner or Khawaja. Cowan can't bat anywhere but 1 or 2. He is too slow and will stunt momentum if he comes in at three to inevitably replace a departing Watson. Hughes can tick the score over.

I would love it if the following was picked, noting the squad selected, and the decision already made on the openers:

Rogers
Watson
Hughes
Clarke
Smith
Warner
Haddin
Starc
Siddle
Agar
Bird

I think Warner at 6, despite his behaviour could be a devastating pick. His major advantage is he will come in with an old ball, play himself in, and then get to cash in with a hard new ball once established, exactly how Hussey did as a former opener.

I don't think Khawaja or Cowan have what it takes long term. Cowan is the anti-Hughes - all technique and no talent. Talent wins out every day, I'd rather a few hundred sprinkled around some low scores and 50s to a guy who scores 30 and no more EVERY time he bats.

Sad to see him go, but what a great interview. I'll miss him both for being a rare Kiwi cricketer who showed consistency between matches and for the batting humour.

This is perhaps my favourite cricket-related gag:

^one of the best.

ONE MORE FUCKING SLEEP, YOU GUYS. GET EXCITED.

Meanwhile, in a poll being run by Cricket Australia, Ricky Ponting is currently leading Don Bradman as the "Greatest Australian Test Player of All Time" :|

Ridiculous poll. It was bracket-style, they paired two players against each other, with Ponting/Bradman being the final two.

Team all but confirmed:

Rogers
Watson
Cowan
Clarke
Hughes
Smith
Haddin
Starc
Agar
Siddle
Pattinson.

Have to say props on picking Agar and Smith. Cowan for Warner or Khwaja and I am pretty happy.

You can;t run a poll like that so soon after he's played. Its too soon to include Steve Waugh in a poll like that. People who loved unconditionally as kids still have biased thoughts towards players they have seen. Ponting is top 5, no higher for mine. He scored his runs while Aus were at the top, and fell away when they were sliding. Waugh and Border scored their runs to PUT THEM at the top.

Solid start. First over from Patto was a bit nervy but him and Starc are bowling well.

Think Root looks a really good player and his last name is just perfect.

Straight from the horse's mouth David Warner to join Australia A squad

Zimbabwe July 18-20
South Africa July 24-27
South Africa July 31-Aug 3

That definitely counts him out for the second test, and possibly the third as well.

They will recall him to play the tour game in between 2nd and 3rd tests. Khawaja is a chance if someone fails badly. Doubt they will change anything but bowlers fr game 2 though

First session I give the points to England. Aus needed another wicket. Trott looking in dangerous touch and if Pietersen has a good series we're just about fucked.

The Ashes seems so insignificant in comparison to Wimbledon.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha funniest thing you've ever said.
