I never even watched Linear.

Cue IWB: "i don't even know what the fuck it is, and i'm glad i don't"

It's only one of about 4 things going on in this thread on the last few pages that make no sense to me, I'm not sure why I should single it out.

One of the best things in life is when Strummer screams "JESUS CHRIST!" towards the end of Brand New Cadillac.

I wish I had heard Macklemore and Ryan Lewis before Thrift Shop blew up.

I had no idea what it was though, until then. I love it.

How good is The National's drummer? He's one of the few I've ever heard who can be the highlight of a song.

OK, thank you Simple Minds thread, had my annual listen to Unknown Pleasures and Closer again today to see if anything had changed...it's about the 6th time I've done this.

Surprised to say, there was some success today.

Usually I flat out hate Unknown Pleasures (besides 2 or 3 tracks), and vaguely enjoy Closer.

Today, I hated Closer, but...I...actually....liked Unknown Pleasures.

Baby steps.

Listening to Innerspeaker. It's really fucking great. I always was too harsh on it.

I'm constantly amazed by Brian Devendorf. He's one of very few drummers I can name whose drumming I actually actively listen to. He actually saves a number of their songs for me too; tracks like Friend of Mine or Squalor Victoria would bore me, but his drumming keeps things really interesting.

I love "Thrift Shop", but the rest of the album (that I've heard, had to go home and haven't heard the rest yet) kicks the shit out of it.

I haven't heard it, but the other tracks I've heard (not called Same Love, which is atrocious) have been good.

The Interference home page struggles on: it has not one but TWO articles about Mumford & Sons within inches of each other.

In related news, I listened to Power, Corruption, And Lies yesterday, and enjoyed it a lot more than usual. I'd still rank it below the following three studio albums (Low Life, Brotherhood, Technique) but there really are a good number of standout tracks.

Can't really connect with Ecstasy or Ultraviolence, though.

It's interesting that Blue Monday and its alt. version The Beach aren't even on the original UK pressing. When it comes to The Beatles I would never listen to the Frankensteined U.S. versions of the earlier albums, but I can't imagine this New Order album without those two.

Having said that, Leave Me Alone would be a great closer, I'm thinking. When Bernard's guitar comes to the front right before the 3:00 mark, and then goes into a nice repetitive solo and back to the main lead for the outro. Really good shit.

I really like but do not love every one of the classic New Order albums. I think I would give each of them an 8 or so.

Whereas I would give Unknown Pleasures a 9 or 10 and Closer a 7.

Brotherhood is one of the best things I've heard by anybody. And that whole first side (the "rock" side) is fairly obscure in terms of singles/popularity. There isn't an Age Of Consent/Love Vigilantes/Regret, just solid fucking tracks with energetic guitar work from Bernard, particularly on Way Of Life (my favorite solo of his). Also he plays with such delicacy and beauty double-tracking himself on As It Is When It Was, then shreds when the song picks up later.

I'd give the whole thing another spin.

Brotherhood is my favorite New Order album. I've heard it twice, along with Low-Life and Power, Corruption and Lies and it's the one I want to return to most often. Technique and 1981-1982 I've only heard once, so I need to give those another chance.

Funny you brought this up. I was in my local music store earlier today and they had a copy of the deluxe PLC for $13. I had originally passed on the deluxe versions when they were first released because they were expensive as fuck, but apparently the prices have dropped big time. On a whim, I picked it up, and I was listening to the whole thing earlier. Sounds fucking fantastic. They have the album set up like the original UK version, but thankfully Blue Monday and The Beach are part of the bonus disc, so I can still recreate the US version.

Laying there listening to Your Silent Face...just awesome.

And that's my contribution for the evening..
