I like that Broken Bells record. I like Gnarls Barkley. I think the Black Keys are effing great.

I also think that none of those three artists mean diddly-squat in regards to what this U2 album is going to sound like. He's not going to turn them into anything they're not.

I'm excited that DM is involved and am really looking to see/hear what he brings to the table. I'm excited because he's new and different in relation to U2, and it's just icing on the cake that I've liked DM's other recent projects.

Even if I didn't, I'd still be very interested to see what he's doing with U2. I'm happy they're trying something/someone new.

Shit yes cori!:applaud: Agreed!

No, that's the Black Keys style of rock.

I understand.

I am just talking about DM's record overall and the fact that he hasn't been involved in too many with the rock scene gives me a bit of pause.

I am well aware U2 would keep their own style, but still, DM will be an influential set of ears and will be pushing them. That's what a producer does anyway, never mind one brought in with an eye toward doing something different.

Don't get me wrong, I am giving the guy a chance, know he is talented and am not rushing to judgement. I was simply agreeing with Ozeeko who questioned the coronation of sorts that seems to be taking place with DM here on interference.

The quote from DM was no more specific than the quote from Paul McGuiness a couple months ago yet we're all hailing this as Achtung Baby II coming to your record store(or more in tune with 2011, leaking to a site) in a few short months.

We are? Maybe I'm reading different posts than you are (I do tend to skim), but I don't get that impression at all. I feel like the general sense is optimism and curiosity. Not premature overreaction.

Agreed. I have no illusions that they won't still sound like U2, and that's fine - if I didn't love their established sound, I wouldn't be such a huge fan. I think what most of us are hoping for is that DM will nudge them a little into maybe exploring uncharted territory. In addition, them working with DM period and leaving the comfort zone of their usual cast of production characters speaks to them maybe wanting to try new and fresh things, and IMO, that's when they're most creative. I'm excited, but within reason, I think.

Well, just look at the pages filled in this thread as well as in the "surprise" thread just since DM opened his mouth.

It's almost like he's Warren Buffet speaking and moving the Dow Jones 100 or 200 points in an afternoon.

Anyways, the general point I was making was that everyone declaring U2:2000-2010 over and heralding DM as the guy who will fearlessly drag them into their next phase.

We are reading the same posts, and I think this has been tangible throughout.

Oh snap! "So He Won't Break" is my favorite Black Keys song .

I'm not saying U2 should ape TBK, but I fucking love that track.

Why the assumption that Danger Mouse producing (insert name) will be in any way similar to Danger Mouse producing U2 ?

I'm glad they're trying someone new, and leaving this era of U2 behind. I believe much of the rehashed sounds in the 00's - especially the last two albums - comes from U2 working with familiar producers. I'm especially glad to see this realisation of taking too much time in the studio.
"Each night on this tour, we'd fly out of a show and go straight into the studio," Bono says of the Danger Mouse sessions. "Because you enter the studio with the roar of the crowd in your ears, you know what works. If you take musicians away from the stage too much, they become quite abstract in their heads. They start to use words like 'interesting.' But people don't want to see you do something interesting. They want something passionate or wild.
Passionate / wild ? They haven't been none of that for a long while, try as they might have for "interesting" on NLOTH (with highly debatable sucess)

But the single most exciting part for me is they moved on, all of a sudden, from a fairly well developed project still talked about a lot as late as the 2010 European 360 let, with Eno/Lanois, to Danger Mouse. That means the DM songs are either coming incredibly fast - and Bono said they're coming quickly - or that they are very good. Or both.

forgive my questions guys, i don't keep up on u2 news because i have a li...........................…ah hell i'm just lazy. are they going to keep 360 going when the new album comes out or just not tour or do a entire different tour? if they keep 360 going it'll probably be on the road a total off what? 3 yrs?

as far as we know it'll be the 360 tour regardless of new material

Well it's been 360 this leg and the EU leg, and those didn't support any album either. So I don't see a reason to change it.

sounds to me like they are doing a 180 instead
Seriously, however, I'd guess that 360 in 2011 will basically be a "new tour" in terms of setlists. Some sections might stay around (COBL > Vertigo > CT Remix > SBS, for example), but it seems like they'd want to change things up a lot if they're promoting a new album.

This is what I'm thinking, too. I'm going to attempt to go spoiler-free prior to the Seattle show. I'm not sure how early I have to start. Should I start before the first South American shows this month? Can I wait another few months? Should I wait to see if/when the album comes out?

:panic:

I feel like if an album is coming out in May, they won't really incorporate it into the sets until the NA leg begins that month, outside of a lead single, they're going to venues they don't play often, they won't make most of the set unheard material and leak their own album so-to-speak to the rest of the world. That's what I'm thinking anyway.
