Yeah, I remember being shocked at book prices. Can you find any of them used in your bookstore or online.

I tried. I got lucky my first two years because my friend's boyfriend took a bunch of the same classes I did because we were in the same program. He was a year ahead of me so he let me borrow his books. This year though he took none of the classes I'm taking so I have to buy them all. I looked at the used section and there are barely any left for any class, plus I checked on the notice boards for people selling books and I couldn't find any for my classes. I think it's because my program isn't really that popular so it's hard to find used books for it.

I had to buy three for one class today and it was like OMG kill me now

I know what you mean. We've been ordering from the same chinese restaurant since I've been little and I still can barely understand the people on the phone

Hope you enjoy your lunch!

It was good! Wish I could have gotten more, but that's okay. I'll run out later and grab a snack, as the small little roll I had isn't filling enough.

Isn't that...awful? I had the same thing happen this morning, had to call and get some very important information regarding my student loan, and the guy I spoke to had such a thick accent, I could only understand half of what he said. I even said to him "I'm sorry, I'm having difficulty understanding you" and he was better for a sentence or two, but then he went back to being hard to understand again. It feels so culturally insensitive to say "could I speak to an English person?" but I *really* need the correct info. I'll have to call back tomorrow and hope I get someone else. :sigh:

I'm just a ball of sunshine lately.

Ugh, that sucks. I totally understand, though. With important stuff like that you really don't want to mess around - you need to make sure everything's understood. With a restaurant it's not that big of a deal, though. Hope you're able to speak to someone more fluent tomorrow!

I remember those days well, Kristen. I went to a private school for university, so we were pretty screwed over when it came to tuition and the costs for everything. It was SO crazy expensive! :sigh: In the first few weeks of school there was always an informal (although rather huge) book sale, where everyone just sat out on the lawn with all their books, and people sold or traded stuff. That helped, but not all the time, as often you'd need newer versions or whatever.

Good luck finding what you need!

You should check Amazon, Sarah has had some luck finding used texts on there.

Thora, a restaurant would be frustrating too. It's the kind of situation where there's no good way to go about asking for an English speaker, where it my situation, at least it's kind of understandable. Glad you ended up enjoying your food, anyway. :)

Edge knows where the good stuff is!:shifty:

Thanks for all the book advice guys  I'm gonna try next semester again for student sales. Hopefully I'll have better luck.

VP, when I got my booklist I looked on amazon, but no luck. Pretty much the same pricing or I couldn't find the books on there.

Oh, right, you made the uni decision very recently, didn't you? You may have better luck on Amazon looking early for future semesters, too. :)

So sorry to hear about your aunt Zooey!:hug:

Kristen, which chinese food place do you order from?:hmm:

Sounds like this place is going to be empty next week!

Okay girls I can't believe I'm asking this, but a friend wants to see some shots of IT and there aren't pics in this thread. Hit me with some!

I hope someone has that one picture of him on the bridge were it is ridiculously .... um .... well-defined.

That is definitely an "OH, COME ON!!!" moment.
