Well maybe they'll make another DVD later on. I'm glad I can just enjoy this great show without picking and analyzing it to pieces. I really don't see how any U2 fan could watch this and feel disappointed in this band. But that's just IMO of course.

I remember people (including myself) being surprised about the lightning - or the lack of it - during the You Tube broadcast. I thought they'd fix that for the DVD and wonder why it's still that dark. I'm used to seeing "dark" U2 concerts, but the claw definitely should be lit up. Daylight, on the other hand, isn't good, it just takes away from the atmosphere.

I've received the box set yesterday, it's beautifuly done! Unfortunately I can't play vinyls, so I must wait till someone uploads it somewhere in a mp3 format. I don't know if it's been mentioned already, but the vinyl has only one track called "Soon" and it lasts 2:05 minutes.

disappointing that it's only 2:05. i guess all we're really getting is a better quality version of "Soon", since we pretty much made our own rip about a year ago.

:hyper: I got it I got it I got it! Am about to watch.

And I cannot find our bloody turntable so I can't tell what Kingdom sounds like. :scream:

Wait, you only watched half?

Yeah. I had to make dinner, do other stuff around the house, go to bed, etc. I like my sleep. I thought about waiting to watch it all in one sitting, but then decided I wanted to see what I could last night, and catch the rest later. :D

I got mine on my doorstep yesterday from Amazon and watched it!
Thoughts:

It was too dark. Maybe they asked for mood lighting (cough ..lack of light) to hide their wrinkles? Up close beauty shots of them glowing in blue light were nice. :)

Surprisingly yes, the crowd seemed very laid back and I got the feeling Bono was trying really hard to get them off their fat asses! HA! That was funny! The Youtube show seemed like the crowd was more in to it, so the editing for me made the lack of energy from them more pronounced. I thought it would be the opposite. :|

But it was a great show! It seemed like the spirit did not descend on the RB that night.
There wasn't a goosebump moment for me, not even during Streets. :(
And that song always gets me. Maybe the camera shots needed to be more on the crowd jumping to help convey that spine tingling sensation during the opening ...
??

Also missing for me,,, lack of any fans on stage. Why isn't he dancing with anybody this time around? Or just messing around with people. He seemed removed from the crowd in a weird way. Did anybody notice that? As far as physical contact goes.
This 360 was suppose to make the inter-action with people better but for me it seemed like the crowd was just there and not a part of the show.
Remember how he used to walk out on the barriers and lean over everybody or just reach out and touch hands with fans...
Is the stage too far away this time from the rails? I couldn't tell.

Nope it isn't. At the concerts I was in he did reach down and high fived a couple of us. or reached out on the tip of the circles.

I am watching and it annoys me that During Magnificent the whole crowd is dead. They're all just standing there with their cellphones up filming or taking pictures. Well fun having a concert that way.
Loving the introductions though! And the beginning of ISHFWILF.

Very cool they put Terry on the screen! And first goosebumps moment for me, strangely enough during the Solo of UC. I never had that during the tour. Hm Edge is using his number 2 Les Paul.
 Edge and his snowglobe. That's very cute, love how he kept that theme during the whole tour! LOVING UTEOTW! Edge hanging his guitar over the bridge, them playing around like the old days bullfight ont eh bridges. Lovin' it!

Maybe it helps that I"m watching this in my living room with the curtains closed, but I've barely any problems with the darkness of the screen!

And I'm noticing Adam's been fancying up his older bassparts! MW has some new basslines at the solo and after solo parts, COBL has added notes and a new prechorus bassline. Vertigo seems different too. Main riff seems higher during the verses, like he's playing the notes the wrong way around. :hmm:

Finally the crowd seems to come back to life during Vertigo!
Shame they're back to dead during Crazy's verse. Seems like they have no clue what's going on there. Gotta love the confusion. And did I spot a Mr. Mullen SMILE there? Gotta love Edge bouncing around the stage. At the finale the crowd does seem to be into it! God, it's still awesome what they did to this song. So bloody epic. It doesn't fully translate to a dvd, but it's still awesome.

Did he forget the lyrics to SBS again? :giggle:

Fraid I can't add more as my post will be timed out in a minute.

So we watched the whole show - I kinda wish I hadn't watched the youtube stuff so much but that's my own damned fault. Then the only extra I watched so far was Breathe. I thought maybe we'd be able to tell why it didn't make the cut. Yes the editing was awful and the camera was out of focus but I find it really hard to believe that, out of all the, what, FORTY cameras, they couldn't find some footage that didn't suck.

Other than that it was pretty danged awesome. I did see the crowd just kinda standing around a bit. I was in that crowd and there were a lot of people who just seemed to be there for the opportunity to be on video or because it was "the thing to do" that night. In fact there was a group like that right in front of us, who got really annoyed at our exuberance and left 1/2 way through the show.

Nothin' like being there though.

So, nobody in Europe knows how to rip vinyl? :waiting:

:D

I can't find my dad's turntable and don't know anyone who has a USB turntable. :( Sorry!

One more thing to add. I'm enjoying the fact that I can HEAR Bono's guitar. Noticed it during NLOTH, now again during One. Finally they didn't turn it down too much.

At the shows I went to there was much fan/crowd interaction and there were fans on stage, and as far as I remember Bono used to bring up a kid on stage during most of the US concerts. As far as the "dancing" part is concerned: There were some girls/women on stage but I'm actually glad Bono didn't do that on a regular basis any more because it's just an ackward moment.

I usually don't get goosebumps while watching a concert DVD, except for concerts I've actually been to myself, when the memories kick in. But watching a concert on my tv just isn't that great and doesn't give me goosebumps at all, that doesn't have anything to do with the concert itself.

As for crowd participation, I'll keep my mouth shut. People have been attacking other people here because they claimed the crowd wasn't that great and it's funny how many come out now saying how lame the crowd was. Guess you can't really re-work that for an official DVD release unless you want to replace the whole audience. Next time U2 should really consider filming in Europe. Reaction to the new material was great at the shows I went to. It's kind of depressing to think about how great some crowds were and how laid-back the audience seems on this DVD.

On the other hand, I have a feeling the DVD was really supposed to be about the band and the stage design, not so much about the audience.

I honestly don't care why he's not doing it (for the most part) this tour. I'm just glad he's not. ;)

Yeah, I honestly don't care about the audience. It's cool to have an occasional crowd shot of the audience jumping up and down as one (like in U23D), but I get annoyed with too many crowd shots (Muse Wembley DVD, I'm looking at you).

Still wish there were more long shots of the Claw in all its glory.

Really liked the "Squaring the Circle" bonus feature - that was really cool.

Really? What's this? :D

And yes, it's an editing thing as far as how much the crowd shows up on the final version, so it's all subjective. And yes, being there is different than watching on TV. But I definitely got the laid back LA vibe on this DVD.
But hey... it's LA.

Does anyone have a clue what Larry was saying/shouting to Adam during the first verse/chorus of Streets? :hmm:

I noticed that too. It looked like to me he was snipping at a camera man maybe?
Also noticed how Bono was teasing Larry, I think there was in inside joke going on because Bono made a point of giving Larry more props, did you notice that? And then near the beginning of the show Bono started immitating a baby and sucking his thumb...and smirking right at Larry like he was teasing him about being a baby. Maybe he wanted more attention.
Haha! Just guessing.

Its cracking me up people are complaining about the audience (not you, Jeannieco, just all the others I have read)- first of all, 90% of the show was so dark, you can't even see the audience, so they really were not relevant to this shoot at all. (that being said, I did spot me and my sister twice on the DVD!! :reject::D) I think people are just predetermined to think American audiences suck, so no matter what they see, they are going to bitch and moan and say they should have shot it in Europe. Whatever.

The audience was in to it - especially during the Black Eyed Peas! Honestly, any of the "mellowness" had to do with the setlist, there were a lot of mellow songs, and a lot of new songs a casual U2 fan (which you have to assume was at least 50% of the audience in a crowd of 100,000) didn't really know. During the hits and the upbeat songs, the crowd was into it.

But I totally agree with the lack of Bono interaction - I was afraid of this when I heard they were going to shoot the DVD, I really didn't want it to be a one take at the Rose Bowl, because I knew Bono would then be on his "best behaivor". I am sure he was told none of his normal shannanignas, they had way too much money riding on the shoot for something to go wrong. It was a bummer, because the spontinaity of a normal U2 show was the one thing that was totally lacking for me. Bono didn't seem as relaxed as he normally does.

The other bummer to me is they cropped off the end - in reality, they stood out there a long time after MOS, the crowd was going bonkers, and Bono said something like "I wish this wasn't the end" (or something else that really concerned me, it almost sounded like U2 was packing it in as a group, he was that emotional, he made it seem like it was the last time we would ever see them perform! Or maybe I was projecting my fears.). Does anyone remember specifically what he said??

I remember him saying that too and I said what did he just say??!

And yeah that was one thing I wished too was that the end didn't cut off after MOS. It was really emotional afterward when they said their goodbyes to the crowd.

OK, Bonocomet, it wasn't just me! :D It was really odd, he was super emotional, and he really made it seem like they were breaking up or something. My sister and I both were like, "WTF did he just say?!!!" I thought I must have not heard him correctly. Or maybe it was just silly Bono getting emotional. I was really looking forward to seeing it on the DVD, to see what he actually said.
