Ok, if they wanna go for sure hits the next time... why don´t they release the more obscure stuff from the NLOTH-Sessions as Passengers Pt.II - just release it without any media hype and the pressure to have success. That would be a great gift for their fans, I think.

Not good news if you want U2 to continue 'trying' to be experimental:

From Hotpress:

"We've got some stuff, more abstract stuff that we could put together as a release; but right now what's really intriguing me is plain old fashioned song writing."

Songs of Ascent RIP...

Bono and McGuiness comments on summer SOA are more recent. Who knows when Hotpress did this interview.

I don't think this album will come out until 2011

see i think the 2011 argument makes the least sense, considering the 360 Tour will be over, and i dont' see U2 booking a new tour the year after 360 ends. my opinion has always been that if it doesn't happen this year, it won't happen at all until at least late 2012/early 2013.

This:

all this good news coming in now the edge has ruined it for me lol jk

but i really hope they release songs of ascent in some form i liked the idea, it sounded like a new style for u2 in the sense that it would be an entire album of nightime music instead of 1 or 2 songs like that plus i liked the direction they were heading with nloth - i hope they dont back down and release an album of crazy tonights and elevations -

Someone already quoted it, but I feel the need to equally share my approbation :D

Baffling really, I still tend to to go with the Paul McGuinness statement, but they really are sending out mixed signals.

Remind me to ignore this thread for at least a month, the roller coaster is driving me crazy.

this is exactly what i saw coming. i had a feeling The Edge would say something to pull the excitement back a little. i still feel pretty good about our chances. i realize that Paul McG was wrong about the NLOTH release date, but i'm not overly concerned. June 2010 seems like the most logical date for the next album. the common theme has been that the band wants to get the album out in time. it'll happen folks. don't worry.

To be honest I don't believe Edge's quotes mean that there won't be an album in June.

I just think it will be full of abstract songs next to Elevation type songs which will be a shame IMO.

i like Elevation, so that wouldn't bother me.

I agree with your interpretation, though i'd be happy with the abstract route, i don't mind elevation, though i'd be happy if they don't go down that road again

I'm a little concerned that it will be of Vertigo type songs next to Elevation type songs. "Good old-fashioned songwriting" has a tendency to be the death of art with U2. The thing is, they usually overdevelop their "good old-fashioned songwriting", as we saw with Bomb... but if the album comes out in June, they won't really have time to. So maybe we'll see a bunch of Native Sons... I know a lot of people would like that, but, from an entirely personal standpoint of preference... I hope not.

The original idea Bono mentioned, meditative songs about pilgramage together with what we heard of kingdom sounded absolutely perfect to me, I just pray that that is what they will go with. Happy new year ya'll!!!!!!

Rattle and Hum and JT were "good old-fashioned songwriting"...

R&H is my least favorite U2 album, and JT is middle-lower tier.

I know this is an unpopular view... still, it's mine.

Fair play to you for your view, I sometimes feel the same regarding Rattle and Hum, 13 year old Gav was most disappointed when he first heard it in 88! However being 13 I soon had my first taste of unrequited love(still hurts) and as a result All I want is You became a favourite!! After that I slowly began to like most of the rest of the album though I have always HATED the live stuff. Though my opinion needs to be taken with a pinch of salt< I'm currently watching a claymation story of Huck Finn, Becky Thatcher and Tom Sawyer meeting Satan on youtube and am currently referring to it as the best thing I've ever seen!

^ :giggle: that made me laugh.

I have to admit right now I'm feeling like alanah. I'm just so excited that we may get another 2 album tour for the first time since ZooTV, that I'll take whatever they give us

and this champagne is really good. :weekend: happy new year!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR, INTERFERENCE! May the gods be inspired to gives us what we want!

Sex, wine, and the U2 album. And may it be full of vertigo type of songs so that digitize starts combusting with rage!:up:

Hay! first post of 2010.

Sorry i drunk alot tonight... So, probably, I'm making no sense. (except the sex part )

Again, Happy new year!

This interview was carried out mid-December so there's hardly any difference:

Well, one seems vague while the other narrows it down to a possible release date. Like I said, I trust Bono and McGuiness more since it's a more recent quote.

"We've got some stuff, more abstract stuff that we could put together as a release; but right now what's really intriguing me is plain old fashioned song writing." (and this means Elevation type of songs because...?)

"I have heard some of the stuff the guys have played and, yeah, it is great. Bono is always an optimist but he seems confident of getting a new record out by the end of the next six months. They're talking about June. By that time we will be ready to go back on tour and I think that will give it a different flavour."

I tend to be hopeful about June release... and i think that is only because of the upcoming tour. I just don't see them doing another tour without introducing any new material at all.

**keeping my fingers crossed**
