 I'm going to check it out.

 Not surprising...he's always been the more mainstream/commercial of the band. :D

I wonder what Larry listens to, Lady GaGa and Britney Spears all night long probably. I like Phantom a lot as a station though because they don't turn their backs on bands when they become popular

 Wouldn't that be hilarious if Larry ended up being the pop influence on the group.

Edge: Let's record another Zooropa!
Eno: Passengers 2!
Bono: TJT 2!
Larry: A duets album with Britney Spears!
Adam standing against the wall with one leg against it and a smoke in his hand: Idiots

Yeah...I don't know why but Adam just strikes me as the guy who stands there looking cool

:lmao:

I agree, Adam always makes me think that he'd be the one looking at the rest of the band in disbelief because he's too cool.

Britney Spears has just a couple of songs I like... :hmm:

I'll admit that she's a pop genius, and she releases unbelievably catchy songs. She's obviously full of talent, just used in a way that I, personally, wouldn't use it.

I really did love the U2.com videos they put up before the album was released especially the Adam driving one, seriously that guy is just awesome. It actually made me like Larry a little more too

U2 + Britney = Red Light 2

Her songs are ok, it's her voice I cannot stand. And the naughty-but-nice image she kept pushing on everyone before her downward spiral... aren't we all?

I always find what's interesting about pop music is who the real talent is, is it the singer or the producer. I mean a lot of the time you can't really tell, unless they work with Timbaland seeing as he has a really recognisable style

She's a slave for you Zee, but she's not a girl but not yet a woman but you're a womanizer even though she strips naked and wants you to give her more and If You Seek Amy, she's awfully confusing with the mixed signals

Yeah I meant to say before she shed the "nice girl" image and became this overtly sexual person. If U Seek Amy is like the cherry on top

Yeah, by now, her voice is so processed by recording techniques that I'm not sure what it actually sounds like, but I've seen videos of her singing as a kid, and she really does have a good voice.

I honestly believe that she's talented and always has been. Now, after being sucked into the pop mainstream, there's not much input she has on her songs or anything, so I don't know. But, I'll defend Britney and her talent because I do think she's talented, but was taken advantage of by the industry.

That song got banned from radio here no idea why "All of the boy and all of the girls are begging to if you seek amy" sounds so innocent

Again...the music industry. Period.

And, I mean, she did grow up into an adult who probably is sexual, you know? It's a natural progression, in my opinion.

And on that note, I'm off to do some much needed studying. Bye folks

Good luck Zee

Singers who have based their entire career on autotune annoy the hell out of me, *cough*Rihanna*cough*

Apparently she's produced one of her albums and wrote a few of her songs, so I think she's beginning to have a lot more say in her sound.

I mean of course the progression in a way was natural but you get the feeling a lot of it was forced by the record label. I think the nice girl part was probably the act from the start anyway

Which is exactly why I can't write her off as a talentless hack. Who knows? When the industry controls the image and career of performers, nobody ever, ever knows who is truly talented in the mainstream and who isn't.

I think it's interesting when artists are given control and how they end up reverting back to being controlled

Look at Avril Lavigne or Kelly Clarkson, they both released "serious" albums but that didn't do too well and then came back full on pop, I mean if those albums before were successes maybe we'd be thinking of Avril and Kelly as serious singer-songwriters now as opposed to bubblegum-throwaway pop

great ,just looking on Lolcats, the funniest website known to man

how `bout you?

I'm pretty good, in the library reading and getting ready to start writing a paper, after I get through the books I need to.

:hmm: Maybe. I think the music industry (as it is now, being controlled by 4-5 massive corporations) needs to die a painful death and quickly, personally. There's far more bad coming out of it than good, and without it, maybe talented musicians would be able to be successful.

Yeah the music industry is in a dire state, I mean at least half the market is controlled by 4 labels, soon to be 3 as EMI are screwed completely. I think Indie Labels are gonna be the ones left standing at the end of this all, I mean Indie albums don't have massive sales but they're willing to work with small numbers. An Indie album is willing to just release an album and see if it sells, while a major label needs to release 10 albums, and spend millions marketing each and hope one sells enough to cover the other 9

 Exactly. And, the fact of the matter is that people simply aren't buying albums as much as in the past, making the major labels' model obsolete.

Major Labels can't survive it's impossible, they are too large. Sales are coming down, their business model is based on selling a lot of copies to fund a lot of failures
Indie Labels generally do a sell a small number of a lot of different albums and make money on each sale. Which is scalable in the current market

I really feel bad for new artists right now though, Major Labels are gonna treat them like crap and go after tour revenues. Established artists will be better off than ever though. I mean U2's label know they can release an album themselves if they want, so they need to offer U2 a great deal. While a no-name band can't just release their album if they dream of massive success so they have to basically sell their souls to have a shot. That's a huge problem for new bands I mean you can self-release and pray someone downloads it word of mouth happens, you can sign to an indie label and get a pitchfork review that will make or break you, or you can sign to a major label lose control over your music but maybe become big

True, very true. Being a new artist today is nearly impossible, like you said. There's bands like Okkervil River, who have been together for close to 10 years, and are just now getting recognized outside of the small indie scene, and even now, they aren't making much money. Their lead singer worked at a video store while releasing albums until just a few years ago, when they started gaining popularity. It's really too bad, because all that this situation does is stifle artists' creativity and ability to reach an audience.
