True, very true. Being a new artist today is nearly impossible, like you said. There's bands like Okkervil River, who have been together for close to 10 years, and are just now getting recognized outside of the small indie scene, and even now, they aren't making much money. Their lead singer worked at a video store while releasing albums until just a few years ago, when they started gaining popularity. It's really too bad, because all that this situation does is stifle artists' creativity and ability to reach an audience.
Yeah so many indie bands must struggle a lot to get by, I mean I love the Dresden Dolls and practically worship their music but they're not well off or anything, I mean their second album was a success in indie terms but they basically just made rent out of it and have to tour their asses off to get by. And then there's the indie bands who release an album every year where you just get the feeling if they sat down and tried to record an album properly without rushing it'd be amazing
