You can't assume. You should ask the person before coming to that conclusion. For example, you said my playlist sounded rushed and I replied that it wasn't. It isn't hard to ask how making the playlist went after they've submitted it.
So the next time you talk about an album and you say it's rushed, I want you to contact the band that made it and make sure it was before you say.

......*cracks*

You got me. My upcoming funk list is actually just these two discs with a 25-page paragraph attached:

You can't double up on artists, LM.

Okay, let's everyone have a little breather and calm down, perhaps? Eat some chocolate?

Alright, The Verve - Really good song off of a really good album

Dream Theater - This is gorgeous. One of my buddies is a huge Dream Theater fan and I gotta say I've been mostly very impressed by everything I've heard from them

Haha this 9 minute mostly mellow atmospheric instrumental is not exactly what I was expecting from a band called This Will Destroy You.

It did not destroy me. In fact I feel exactly the same after listening to it as I did before I listened to it.

:lmao: I just almost choked on potato chips, THANK YOU GAF

Perhaps No-Man will actually feature men playing on it? :hmm:

Hey no problem. I don't want you choking on your chips, though. That would be bad.

Alright now I'm on the Pure Reason Revolution song. A band that I've heard really good things about.

And so far it definitely fits with the style and mood of a lot of the songs on Axver's list. Lengthy but very well-done progressive rock instrumentals.

Oh wow now this Shadows song doesn't fit the same mood at all. There's crazy almost surf-like guitar on it. It's cool, though.

Alright, now I'm on a song called A Sort of Homecoming by some band called the U2.

It's really bombastic and over the top and the lead singer sounds like a wailing, pompous ass. This band sucks.

The Subterranean Masquerade song was really nice, there's been a lot of really cool piano work on a lot of these songs.

And the 12 minute Yndi Halda track that I'm on right now is very cinematic. It seems like it should be played over a really dramatic climactic movie scene.

The Caspian instrumental didn't really grab me at all. And the vocals on this Bailter Space song are almost completely buried. Strange.

Ooooh the transition from Ride > Crowded House was perfect. And I like this Crowded House song so far.

Ok, the No-Man song and the Porcupine Tree song were both pleasant and you can tell that the same guy is involved with both bands. It was not my favorite Porcupine Tree song I've ever heard, though. (although I've only heard about 10)

Beach Sequence, of course, is a great song and it fits really well where it is.

I'm on the last track now, the Alcest song.

Cool closing track.

Alright, Axver, I know you might never even wander into this thread but I'm gonna tell you what I though about your list anyway haha. I really enjoyed it. More so than I thought I would, actually. It seems like a collection of songs that would be really well suited for a quiet night or a long drive or just some good ol' introspection.

In fact, now that I think about it, it would be a good list to smoke some weed and listen to. Damn, I should have done that in the first place.

I think my favorite part of your list was the first 35 minutes or so. Floyd > Eluvium > 65 Days of Static > Explosions in the Sky. Gorgeous.

Other standout tracks were the ones by Camel, Dream Theater, Subterranean Masquerade, and U2. Also, that Yndi Halda track was fucking EPIC. Another highlight. Good stuff, Axver.

Now, the eternal question at 3:20 in the morning...do I listen to another one or do I watch a movie or do I go to sleep? :hmm:

Yeah, it is. Axver basically said the same thing a few games ago. Every playlist will have their moments though.

It seems Screwtape has buggered off, so I apologise for resurrecting this, but I really don't like having words put in my mouth when that's not what I said. What I have said is that, FOR ME PERSONALLY, none of the B&C DI tournaments have had as good music as the MikePortnoy.com DI tournament that inspired Liam and I to bring the game here. I mean this solely in terms of my own musical tastes with regards to the individual songs. I've seen a lot of great ideas, I've seen some fantastic sequencing, and I've seen some very creative and commendable work, so there has been plenty of worth to enjoy in tracklists across the board. However, very few tracklists contain the kind of music that I personally want to play again, so while I may find the playlist to be well done, it just doesn't have the music to compel me to return. It clearly appeals to other people though, so that's awesome. There are very few lists I would consider "not worth listening to", most of them in DI I.

Screw, I'm in half a mind to disqualify you from the tournament. Seven tracks from the same compilation? I don't care if they don't sound alike or whatever it is you said about them. That's beside the point. You could say the same about seven tracks from certain artists. I never expected anybody would actually do something like this, so I never wrote a specific rule about it. For somebody who in the past prattled on about the importance of the rules and their spirit, you clearly completely missed the implication (or spirit, if you will) of rule #2: no repeating songs from the same source. You may do well to note rule #6, that any entry pushing the rules is subject to being banned. I'm not saying I will or even want to ban you, but as I said, I've half a mind to do it and I'm putting this out there.

Cool closing track.

Hey, GAF, glad to see you enjoyed it. The Screw Argument caught my eye. I initially made the list as music to play in the background when I'm writing and want something that sounds pleasant and is not going to distract me. I've been using it a lot when writing essays for university, so I think I've achieved that personal goal.

Glad to see you enjoyed the Camel and Subterranean Masquerade tracks, as they didn't seem to appeal to the couple of people I know have already played it. I'm quite pleased to see the enthusiasm for the Yndi Halda track - I expected it would be unpopular, but all three reviews of my list I've read have praised it. It was interesting to see you compare the Goblin Mix track to indie rock - it's actually a mid-eighties track from one of the Flying Nun Records bands out of New Zealand, and a lot of indie rock bands from the early nineties onwards have credited the Flying Nun/Dunedin Sound bands as influential. Personally, I fucking love The Water; Goblin Mix's subsequent material had somewhat of a menacing edge.

Bonnie, there are no death growls at all.

I stand by the fact that not only are the tracks each of a different genre, each recorded by a different person, most of which are not from the same time, each from a different part of the world, only one recorded specifically for the Golden Record and never collected in hopes of releasing it decades later. They aren't at all connected outside of being on the Voyager probe. I don't understand why people are going crazy about this. It isn't like I built my playlist on them. In fact, they were a final coat on the playlist. I can't for the life of me figure out why people have a problem with these tracks.

Funny how that didn't refute my points.

And are you going to apologise for putting words in my mouth?

It isn't pushing the rules. My last post supports that. Phanan got my playlist with time left before the deadline and didn't say anything. If there was a real problem, why wasn't there a big outcry once the master list went up?

And, no. Calling playlists crap and saying they aren't worth listening to are the same thing.

I wrote the goddamn rules and know what is and isn't pushing them. You don't seem to get this. You're quite clearly pushing rule #2.

Thanks for continuing to put words in my mouth. Either provide the post where I allegedly said that, or retract and apologise.

I'm not pushing any rules. I've already explained why. The situation is unique.

No. I'm not going to retract it when I know what you said. I'm also not going to waste the time to prove you wrong. Most of all though I am not going to give an apology to someone who I have no respect for let alone when I've said nothing wrong.
