All I'm getting at is that I think Wilco's merely OK, but I don't harp on about it every fucking time the band is mentioned.

Smoke is casino germs.

And it's not like this shit doesn't happen all the fucking time. A band that's "indie" gets popular and the backlash hits them like a ton of bricks. I'm surprised Of Monsters and Men has managed to go pretty under the radar in the hatred department so far. Everyone's turning on Gotye, and I wonder how long it is before Take a Walk turns Passion Pit into the new .fun.

Oh yeah, it's definitely not just Mumford and Sons. They're the latest in a long line. No one here gave a shit about the Black Keys until Lonely Boy and now they're selling out the second or third biggest music venue in the city and charging $120 in the process. I really enjoyed Brothers and tried to pimp that album to people, but (most of) what I got was "well Pappy likes it so it must be gay". And then those same people fell head over heels in love with them once Lonely Boy started playing on the radio.

Right, but Mumford & Sons will never make an album like A Ghost Is Born. They're going to make the same album over and over again. That's what I find frustrating about them.

To me, "OK" refers to complacency, not "well, I like some things and not others." I would not describe Animal Collective and Wilco as OK because they aren't (well, Wilco is now, but they weren't in their heyday) middle of the road.

Please let me once again say that you need to get new friends.

People need to check out teh Jenz Lekmanz video and songz I posted about.

Seriously though, check out Jens Lekman in general, guyz. He's Pitchfork certified!

Also, if we're talking about Gotye being turned on, he deserves it. The album blew. Love the song, still do. Fun's new one was a big step down also. It's not just because they're popular.

Nobody's turning on Passion Pit because their album has depth.

You're arguing subjective opinion, and it's a waste of time. To me, everything I've heard by Wilco sounds pretty mild and samey. That's me.

Anyways, there's no point in bashing other people's favorite bands, I was trying to make a point, but I don't feel like arguing it further.

I guess I'm not sure why Mumford & Sons are the target of such derision around here when someone like, say, Taylor Swift - not intended as a knock on GAF in any way - is pretty well liked and even loved. Is there really much difference between the two at the end of the day in terms of their commercial appeal and general pop sensibilities? I suppose I just find it odd that certain "popular" artists are so loved and others so reviled on this forum.

I don't want to re-break the thread, but I was just listening to some House of Love tracks the other night! Still love Destroy The Heart so much.

No, I'm really not. OK is the most subjective term on earth and I tried to give it the definition of "makes the same music over and over again" so it could actually be discussed. Wilco and Animal Collective do not make the same music over and over again. They may be hit or miss, but they are not complacent and boring.

But aight, I can see there's not a lot of give in this discussion, especially if you feel bullied by the cardigan-clad hipster brigade.

I will listen to the new Mumford & Sons and give you my (mostly) unbiased opinion.

To whomever recommended alt-J (Mobvok?), I'm drinking the Kool-aid. Definitely better than a 4.8.

They're from different scenes. Mumford & Sons are being touted as the best in a genre where there's millions of better alternatives if you look, where as Taylor Swift is just one of many pop stars and writes catchy, throwaway pop. I'll never own a song of hers though.

People also need to check out this song which I've posted several times, even on Facebook. I guess it's synth-pop. It's fucking great. He has an album coming out later this month and it will feature Twin Shadow.

Met an extremely hot paralympian this morning. And I have her number. For "work purposes".

Then get to "work", son.

Speaking of albums I am horrifically disappointed by. I can't even finish that new Muse album. I keep trying, but I don't think I've gotten further than 6 tracks in.

I couldn't stand the last one, so i have zero interest in this one.

Go further back into their catalogue and listen to the good albums, then.

Yes.

I don't ever want to hear this Alt-J album.

Not because of the hype (well that may be a *tiny* part of it), but because I missed them open for Chairlift thanks to the bitch (yes, bitch, apologies for the harsh words) who stole Travis' cell phone.

Wish I liked Alt-J, but I found the album kinda dull. Nothing really jumped out at me. Also, the singer shouldn't be singing. He should be doing something else, like farming or making boxes.

I'm on the cell right now, so no videos from me, but Christine deserves mention as one of the great House of Love songs.
