How was going to the concert by yourself? You're still alive, so I guess it was not as bad as you thought.

driving in, standing around before De La came on, was a bit weird. luckily i had my iphone so i checked in on facebook, made it look like I was texting... but once De La started it wasn't a problem at all.

thanks to a number of you i won't miss great concerts any more for fear of going solo.

From the Spiderman thread over in EYKIW: apparently Taymor has hired an outsider, someone who has written comics for Marvel, to come in and rewrite the Spiderman musical.

The show might be already past the point of redemption, but I'm thinking this can only be a good thing.

As long as Boner and Hedge are done with their contributions, I don't give a fuck what they do with the show.

And if they are going to keep writing for it, then I hope the earth opens up and swallows the theater.

So should we place bets on how long it will be delayed again this time?

Also, someone in the other place compared it to a Michael Bay movie. Cool effects/visuals, music too loud, crummy story, but entertaining in that Michael Bay shit-blows-up way. (That was a very broad paraphrasing, I think.)

So I guess if you know what you're getting into, it's not the worst thing ever. That's not a bad spin on it.

I'd happily go to a show solo if I had to. There is something kinda fun about going with someone else who's as excited and would be as into the music as you are, though. And it's also good for safety purposes.

Nice De La Soul video there, looks like a fun show. Now I want to go listen to that song *Heads to YouTube*.

War has always felt very cohesive to me. I think that the "New Year's Day" video encapsulates the album quite well: wintry, sparse, and intense.

 Totally agreed on this, that's one of the reasons I love that album so much.

40 is actually the surprise so far. That's a pretty cool feeling.

Nice! I absolutely love "40", it gives me a real feeling of peace and calm every time I hear it. Such a beautiful song.

Embarrassing musical admission: I find myself captured by whomever sings that Jar of Hearts song. Terrible rhyming and simplistic lyrics, but God I love her voice.

Is that the song with the "you'll catch a cold from the ice in your soul" line? That ranks among the worst lyrics that I have ever heard.

I have no idea what I just watched.

I like Felicia Day though.

You just watched part of the best hip-hop collective since Wu-Tang, a collective that is poised to become the future of hip-hop.

I'm also opening myself up for some big hypocrite statements, considering a large portion of the group's lyrics concern rape. Life is complex...like Che with bling on.

You can hear the vocals better, but raw production is sort of part of the sound.

All their music is free on their Tumblr, so you can even check it out guilt-free: __________OFWGKTA__________

I like Tyler, The Creator's album, Bastard, Earl Sweatshirt's Earl, and the collective's Radical the most.

That's the one. A couple of friends of mine hate that line so much it's actually become a joke of theirs, so every once in a while, they'll fling it at someone as an insult.

When was the last time you guys used a pay phone? God damn, those shits are cool. I left my cell in a friend's car last night and just had to use a pay phone to make a bunch of calls. It was the most fun I've had in days. Felt like I was in a movie.

Pay phones are a wonderful old school form of societal communication, but I fear that they're a dying breed. The pay phone is becoming obsolete.

Save the pay phones.

Heard this: Outkast may be headlining a night at the Fader Fort at SXSW. What say you, Crocodile Dundee?

I was acting in a small part in a friend's film last winter. I was smoking and using the pay phone. I actually just dialed my own cell phone and left a voice mail.

Only criminals use pay phones any more.

About 5-6 years ago was my last pay phone experience. I'd flown home to Wisconsin via O'Hare, and once I'd landed, I could not get my cell phone to work. All flights out were canceled due to thunderstorms, and I said "fuck it" and rented a car, because driving 6 hours was preferable to shelling out for a hotel room with none of my luggage and toiletries.

Anyway, so my phone doesn't work, and I need to call my parents to tell them I'm driving. I stop at a rest stop, and of course I don't have any change*, and either I forgot I could use a credit card or thought that it was way too much trouble to do so, I called my parents collect** to let them know I was driving instead.

When I got back into the car, I realized that I'd never shut my phone off completely when I got on the plane, so it never had the chance to reset itself to the local network when I landed. I rebooted it, and it worked fine.

Oops.

* I had no change thanks to the Chicago tollways. I didn't even have enough money for the final toll, and was convinced they were going to fine me or arrest me or not let me continue driving on the highway ... honestly, I had no idea what happened if you couldn't pay a toll. I pulled up and, on the verge of tears, told the woman in the booth I was 10 cents short. She smiled and told me not to worry about it.

** Yes, as an fully-functional adult I could not deal with the hassle of using a credit card, or remember that I could, to make a call. I also really was panicked and on the verge of tears at the toll booth. I'm pretty even-keeled usually, but travel problems stress me out in the worst way. So between the O'Hare hassle and my phone not working, I was not at my personal best that night to begin with.

/ridiculously long-winded and unnecessary story

While on the subject of phones, I've recently realized I know absolutely no one's phone numbers. Cell phones have ruined me that way. The only numbers I still know off the top of my head are few numbers from my home town when I was a kid.

Apparently Neutral Milk Hotel is going to do some shows this year.

I passed by two places yesterday that had signs up for payphones, but when I went to go look at those relics of time, they had been removed :(

This. It's the worst when someone asks me for my girlfriend's number, because I always have to say "I dunno. Let me look in my phone". Apparently it's weird not to know your gf's phone number off by heart

And I hate having someone ask me for a phone number while I'm actually on my phone, because I can't seem to get to my contacts to look it up without disconnecting my phone.

I should just pack it in and go back to a rotary.
