press release issued today about MSG Sphere hiring...

This is the first time MSG themselves have mentioned "September" in a press release. Everything else has been "Fall 2023." September came from the Las Vegas Review Journal.

not a confirmation that the original dates still hold - but it's a good sign.

What’s the typical lead time for shows? 6 months? Got to sell that shit before May or everyone will spend all their concert vacation money already.

it's pretty varied these days, but yea - it's typically longer now than in the past, largely because of the whole dynamic pricing thing.

the cure - who didn't have any dynamic or platinum priced tickets - had only a two month runway between on sale and the first shows.

considering that the overwhelming majority of people attending these shows will be traveling - you'd have to think that they'd want a large runway.

with the hiring announcement specifically mentioning September for the first time, the now constant testing of the building's exterior screens, and the idea that bono and edge did an interview about the show with zane lowe a few weeks ago in Vegas... i have to imagine we're getting really close to an announcement.

I'm referencing a comedy TV show, so it's not as dire as it appears on paper.

Not Sphere related, but on case anyone was still thinking about the possibility of a show being scheduled the weekend of the F1 race in mid November...

This was from an article in the Review Journal yesterday.

Many of the Strip’s resorts already are sold out for Nov. 16-18. If you look at hotels.com for a room during that time frame, you will see that properties such as Resorts World, The Venetian, MGM Grand, Bellagio, Wynn Las Vegas and Encore are sold out. Some resorts are requiring at least a three-night stay.

And there are some properties that normally rent rooms for less than $100 a night that are charging three to seven times that amount. A sampling: Circus Circus, $549 a night; The Strat, $439; the Motel 6 on Tropicana Avenue, $400.

So, yea, if there was any doubt about it... that weekend ain't happening. The following weekend is Thanksgiving. If things begin on time on September 29? No concerns - they'll be done before the F1 race takes place.

If they do have to push a few weeks, they won't have a choice but to go into December (and potentially January) with dates.
