Are we having server "issues" again? twice today I haven't been able to get on here for quite a while

mmmm something 'odd' was happening with Apache (the web server software) .... happened 3 times, the first of which unfortunately went unfixed for about 4 hours.... the other 2 were quickly noticed and fixed. For the time being, I've written a script to avoid the problem if it arises again -- until I determine exactly what caused it.
