They were probably the most disappointing concert I ever saw. I went to see them at Summerfest in Milwaukee ... I think it was after Adore had come out.

Everything sounded awful, and kind of the same - too fast, too screamy ... even the songs I really liked sounded terrible, like he'd changed them all out of spite.

It didn't help that I went with the guy I'd just broken up with. I still took him with me, as we were trying to be just friends. Not my wisest move ever.

Oh man, worst live show ever. They headlined a festival near Toronto years ago. Just sounded like a wash of distortion. I literally couldn't tell what songs were being played

This new Neil Young album is a riot. I wouldn't really call it "good" or "accomplished" or anything like that, but it is refreshing to see a guy just doing whatever the hell he wants and not apologizing for it. He clearly had a lot of fun making it.

Cherub Rock, Disarm, 1979, Tonight Tonight. Perfect songs.

Bullet With Butterfly Wings has always seemed really silly to me. Maybe if I had started listening to it at 13 instead of 17, I dunno.

I think Mayonnaise is a better track than everything on your SP Rushmore, and displays how well they could go from delicate beauty to blistering rawk.

Also, overplayed as it may be, Today still works for me because of how personal the song is, and what a perfect illustration of creating joy out of pain. That main guitar part is transcendent.

Agreed on BWBW, though. Whiny, emo trash. And Corgan has rarely sounded as annoying. Of course, I have issues with much of that album. Tonight, Tonight and Disarm suffer because of his vocals as well, the former moreso.

Yeah, I think MC&IS is at its best in the quieter moments, like Thirty-Three and To Forgive. The rockers have not aged terribly well. Siamese Dream does stand up as one of the enduring albums of the whole 90s-alt scene, though. That one has endless replay value.

This is, I think, word-for-word what I said about the album.

Can't wait to hear that shit peppering what is otherwise likely to be a NY & Crazy Horse greatest hits set in October. It's going to be a blast.

I love it as well. Considered placing it in the top 4 over Disarm, because it features everything that SP does well.

You know how people say that you hear something new every time you listen to a really great album? I actually heard something new in Dark Side of the Moon yesterday. Crank up Great Gig In The Sky loud enough and, in the waning seconds of the track, you can hear the tape speed up or something. It's really spooky.

My favorite post-Machina thing Corgan did is still Zwan. I probably even liked it quite a bit more than a number of Smashing Pumpkins albums. Bummer his douchiness made all the other band members bail.

I think Zwan sounds closer to Siamese Dream than anything else SP did, which is why I'll take it over everything else. You have SP's two best musicians joined by much more talent than Iha & D'Arcy offered. The music is big and bright with a lot of hooks. And Corgan sounds a lot less whiny.

I am always amazed at the average time between the news of a celebrity death breaking and a thread appearing about it on Interference. Seems to be only about 15 minutes.

this is DarwinTunes, the concept is pretty cool. From my understanding the developers "seeded" a bunch of random musical shit MIDI tunes, and then had progressive "generations" of listeners either approve or shoot down the mutated direction of sinusoidal waves (aka chord changes) and what else in order to artificially select the most pleasing sound. In the first track the speaker points out that a kick drum sound organically generated by the 3000th generation.

From the site I'm guessing it's locked in at 125 BPM, among other aspects, so there's probably room to grow beyond canned MIDI riffs, but it'd be cool to hear how far it could go with the training wheels off.

Maybe she should just date Beck.

Let me correct my last post. The song isn't very good, it's fucking fantastic.

I think I'm now more excited for this album than the new Fiona.

I'm sure that was one of Sicy's shows that got cancelled; I could have sworn there'd been a rash of them and that he was kind of known for flaking out.

Happy to be wrong, though! Would love to see him.

It seems like this shit happens multiple times per tour, to me, that's why my own personal hesitation.

She looks so much like a hotter version of a now former coworker. Maybe I oughta give her a ring.
