Paul S. Otellini, President and CEO of Intel Corporation, delivers his keynote speech while standing in front of a projection of Irish rock musician Bono of U2 at the 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas January 7, 2010. The show runs January 7-10.

I saw in the news yesterday that Dr. Dre and Lady Gaga :)uhoh:) introduced a new product (RED) headphone set designed by Dr. Dre in Las Vegas. Bono wasn't there, but news in different programmes mentioned him as founder of the (RED) initiative and Lady Gaga was giving a short speech about how she talked with Bono about it and wanted to do something for the Global Fund.

^^ yeah, Ive seen those headphones.....she's wearing them in her music video for bad romance I think :hmm: they're selling them in hmv already here.

I wonder what the U2 tie in was with his speech? Just music in general or Bono/U2 specifically? Just curious.

Cumming Says ‘Spider-Man’ Musical Will Be Delayed
By PATRICK HEALY

The Tony Award-winning actor Alan Cumming (“Cabaret”) said Saturday that the coming Broadway musical “Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark” in which he is set to star as the Green Goblin, would be significantly delayed and that producers had hit a financial iceberg last year. Previews were scheduled to begin next month, but speaking at a TimesTalk event, Mr. Cumming said: “No one’s going to be there that day. We’re just waiting.” He said the show had hit “an iceberg of financial ruin” last year when producers could not raise enough money for the show, which is expected to cost upwards of $50 million. He said the producers should have taken down posters in the theater district that suggest the show is opening soon; the musical’s Web site still says that previews start Feb. 25. The lead producer, Michael Cohl, who took over in November, has said that the production would take place on Broadway sometime this year. Mr. Cumming said it was “a really weird, frustrating thing to be waiting,” but added that based on the music (by Bono and the Edge of U2), costumes and sets that he had seen so far, the musical would be “a new, very exciting experience” for Broadway audiences.

Business Insider: Now Bono is a car design expert

David Shepardson / The Detroit News

Nearly everyone who drives has an opinion about what automakers should do, right?

This week's advice comes from U2 frontman Bono. In an op-ed piece in the New York Times Sunday, Bono chided U.S. automakers for not making more family sedans with sex appeal.

"How is it that the country that made us all fall in love with the automobile has failed, with only a few exceptions, to produce a single family sedan with the style and humor and grace of the cars produced in the '40s, '50s and '60s?" Bono wrote. Bono said the U.S. government needs to take action and "put some style fascists into the mix: the genius of Marc Newson ... Steve Jobs and Jonny Ive from Apple ... Frank Gehry, the architect, and Jeff Koons, the artist. Put the great industrial designers in the front seat, right along with sound financial stewardship ... the greener, the cleaner, the meaner on fossil fuels, the sexier for me." Bono praised Tesla and the Fisker Karma car as examples for Detroit.

U2's Bono proposes 'Festival of Abraham' in Jerusalem

In NYT op-ed, rocker calls for holding arts festival that celebrates monotheistic religions 'if there’s a breakthrough in Mideast peace process' Ynet Published: 01.10.10, 07:29 / Israel Culture

U2 lead singer Bono has suggested holding an arts festival that celebrates the origin of the three Abrahamic religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

In an op-ed published by the New York Times, the rocker, who is also the founder of the advocacy group ONE and (Product) RED, said the festival is "something that could never have happened in the Naughts but will maybe be possible in the Tweens or Teens — if there’s a breakthrough in the Mideast peace process."

In the editorial, which lists "10 ideas that might make the next 10 years more interesting," the Irish singer said the proposed festival could be held in a different location every year.

"Jerusalem would obviously be the best place to start," he wrote.

"In Ireland, at the height of the 'Troubles,' it was said that the only solution for rabid sectarianism was to let 1,000 punk-rock bands bloom: music helped create a free space for dialogue (of a high-volume variety). So no politicians allowed. Artists only," said Bono.

Hmm :hmm: I don't know the answer either, but I was thinking it may have something to do with 3D TV's being a hot topic at the show this year, then I noticed he is holding glasses (3D glasses?) or maybe he just took his sunglasses off.

Yeah, that sucks... I hope it will start this year, but this is getting to be a bit of a downer.

“Spider-Man, Turn off the Dark,” the $50 million Broadway musical by Bono and The Edge, is back on – but not until fall 2010.
The show, the most expensive in Broadway history, was supposed to open in March at the Hilton Theater. It ran aground when David Garfinkle, its inexperienced and inept lead producer, failed to come with the money.
Bono’s longtime business partner, Michael Cohl, stepped in to clean up the mess.
The financing is now in place, with a chunk coming from Disney, which recently acquired Marvel Comics.
The show will likely begin previews in September and open in November, sources told The Post.

Actor Alan Cumming is on board as the Green Goblin for the Broadway production of "Spider-Man, Turn off the Dark," which stalled due to a lack of funding. It is now set to premiere in fall 2010.

Refunds are now available for people who bought tickets for performances this spring — previews were supposed to have begun next month — and do not want to exchange them for new dates in the fall.
“Cohl and Disney have sorted it all out,” one source said. “Garfinkle is around in name only.”
Julie Taymor, who directed “The Lion King,” is staging “Spider-Man.”
Alan Cumming is still on board as the Green Goblin.
Spider-Man will be played by newcomer Reeve Carney.

U2 guitarist wants a piece of the Malibu hills

Written by Editor at SurferToday.com Tuesday, 12 January 2010 15:12

U2 guitarist David "The Edge" Evans is moving ahead with plans to build a mini-development of five homes high atop the hills of Malibu, CA, despite the objections of local residents.
The five mountaintop mansions, sitting on 156 acres, would feature panoramic views and will be built to Gold LEED standards.
Residents argue that this project could lead to water run-off, land erosion, wildlife endangerment and, of course, obstruction of views.
We can't help but wonder, wouldn't the most environmentally friendly mansion be the one that isn't built at all?
The development is currently awaiting review by the California Coastal Commission.

‘Spider-Man’ Musical Will Refund Tickets

By PATRICK HEALYAfter weeks of complaints from ticket holders, the producers of the Broadway musical “Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark” announced on Tuesday morning that they will refund tickets through Ticketmaster for preview performances that had been scheduled to start Feb. 25 but are now, as expected, canceled.
In a statement made on Tuesday morning, the producers confirmed that previews will not begin on that date next month, as the actor Alan Cumming — who is set to play the Green Goblin — told the Times on Saturday. The producers did not provide new dates for previews or an opening night, saying only that a revised schedule will be announced shortly and that the plan is still to open the show in 2010.
Asked on Tuesday morning about rumors that the show would now begin in the fall, a spokesman for the show repeated that no dates have been confirmed.
Another executive involved with the musical said on Tuesday morning that, contrary to another rumor, the producers have been able to capitalize the show without receiving any money from Disney, which recently acquired Marvel Entertainment, which holds the rights to the “Spider-Man” story. A spokesman for Disney Theatrical Group on Tuesday referred questions about the musical to the production team.
With music by U2’s Bono and the Edge and direction by Julie Taymor (“The Lion King”), “Spider-Man” has been marred by delays because an earlier group of producers were unable to raise the capital to produce the show, which is now expected to cost about $50 million, which would make it the most expensive in Broadway history.
The musical’s troubles have unfolded at the same time that the next “Spider-Man” movie has been descending into disarray, with the news on Monday that director Sam Raimi and star Tobey Maguire have been dropped and that the movie franchise will be reworked.
Theater-goers, meanwhile, have been raising concerns on blogs and Twitter and in e-mail messages to Ticketmaster about false advertising on the part of the “Spider-Man” producers, who continued to advertise and sell tickets — with interest compounding on the ticket revenue — long after it was clear that the show would not start in February.
The lead producer, Michael Cohl, said in early November that the musical would open sometime in 2010 but would not provide details. Because rehearsals were not underway in November or December, the Feb. 25 preview performance start has not been possible for many weeks.
According to the producers’ statement, Ticketmaster will contact ticket holders affected by the delay, and anyone who purchased tickets can request a refund or wait to exchange tickets once a new performance schedule is announced. Ticket holders will receive a full refund, including booking fees, and the producers will pick up the cost of the processing fee (which would not normally be refunded).
