my grandfather is insane.
He is an old-fashioned higly religious person, frequently anoying but now he's gone to another level
he owns a piece of property with a small house on it adjacent to our house, he has been renting out this property to someone for several years now, he decided he wants to sell the property to this guy (for less than 1/2 of the market value).
this guy he's selling to has a history of money problems (bankrupcy etc) so he found it very hard to get a loan to buy the property (they have been trying to get this done for 2 years now) he finally got a loan from somewhere, and today my the deal was completed. my grandfather got his money
so now he will give it all away, to missionarys etc. all of it will be gone in a matter of months. i overheard him talking to someone just now and he said "it's so wonderful, i 've been in my room this afternoon writing checks! 2k for this , 2k for that" etc.
he is 87, has had heart problems and currently lives with us. my mother (his daughter) & his other children have tried on numerous occasions to get him to save money in case he needs further care in the future with no success. Now he has a large sum of money that he could very easily save for this but no, he will give it all away. is and he does all this for God!
the thing that makes me mad the most is that he cares more about giving money away than his own family. (we finlly convinced him to go to Arizona to see his greatgrandchildren for the first time, he's going next week.) that trip was paid for by his son's family who don't have much extra money and now he has all this money, he hasn't said one thing about paying them for even part of the trip or anything about going to see his other son who lives in Montana etc.
so now i sit here vowing never to get my priorities this screwed up and wishing there was some way to stop him from getting rid of the money, even though i know there isn't
