Detroit Rock City Part II

Ok, a summary of what is going on..

The Palace is being very uncooperative with us, so we actually don’t know what is going on. The plan for the time being is to meet at the Post Bar in Auburn Hills at about 8:00 PM to kickstart the festivities…
http://www.postbars.com/map_pah.html

There is a Def Leppard concert going on Sunday night *insert joke here* so lining up at the venue while the concert is going on may not be a great idea. This way, we can have some food, couple drinks, sing some songs and keep an eye out on the line. Sometime after the show, those of us that are camping can go ahead and do just that. Some people also have hotel rooms nearby.

For those of us camping, we will try to see if the Post will allow us to park our cars there overnight. Some of them can also be left at the hotel…

So we know this, that the weather will suck and that we’re going to have a GREAT time.

Other stuff we think we know:

- Parking lots open at 2:00 pm the day of the show

- GA line is allegedly happening on the west gates which we believe are these gates

- We may be asked to sign liability waiver release forms prior to being allowed in, but the forms will not be distributed ahead of time, so talk about a clusterfuck...

We also know there is nothing nearby

Thsi route MIGHT be a possibility to park our cars nearby without having to cross a 6 lane road!

Call received from the Palace on 10/18

Hi this is Kelly calling from the palace of auburn hills regarding your call and the U2 line. Just to let you know the only decision that has been made at this time is that the line and the parking lot will open at 2:00 in the afternoon. Past that we really haven’t worked out any details with their people and how they want to operate this and what they’re doing. So as it gets closer we’ll be in more contact with their tour promoter and we’ll have more information. So, you’ll need to check back. I would say probably… you know… next... you know Friday. Probably on Friday call we should have more information at that time.

WHOA! I just had a nice little go round with Trish at the Palace......whatta bioche!

Sorry, but I didn't get to far except totally fired up. To make a long story short she said policy has not be confirmed to date and that I need to check back.........I said "in reference to "policy" the policy is and always has been at any venue for U2" and then I spewed your instructions and also indicated this would make for an incredibly controlled and cooperative atmosphere among the fans

I was told "you aren't in any postion to make any policy, and I can promise you that the atmosphere will remain controlled and cooperative or security will see to it that any perpetrators of chaos will be physically escorted off the premises.............

My reply.......excuse me, but as a ticket purchaser for this event I am a "customer" and you are "customer service" so it's your job to make ME happy and right now I'm not terribly happy with your tone of voice or the Palaces lack of information regarding my comfort for this event...............

she hung up on me.....

I tried (deep breath)

Miroslava, can you possibly repost one of those pics with some sort of marker as to where The Post is?

Might help get our bearings a bit and start the wheels turning about getting the line together?

e-mail back from Chris in Guest Relations....

OK.....here is the rundown in regards to the U2 concert. Lines will not be allowed to form until 2pm the day of the show. That is when our parking lot will open up. No one will be allowed to form a line anywhere on the
property until that point in time. We have a concert the night before (Def
Leppard) and we need to close out that shw completely before we can start
working on the next event.

Once the lines start it will become just that....a line. There will be no numbering systems, potty breaks, port-a-potties, food breaks, etc without
raising the risk of losing your spot in line. As for people staying over
night from the 24th to the 25th, that will not be allowed either. Everyone
will be required to leave the property until 2pm the next day when our
parking lot opens up again for the 2nd show.

I will do that picture Gabe!

Oh, and another with the following areas indicated:

- known breaches in the chain link fence surrounding the perimeter
- areas conducive to implementing a decoy distraction while I put my wire cutters to work
- low-light areas or blind spots where the guard tower spotlights miss
- similarly, bushes and other vegetative cover
- potential lookout post(s)
- potential retreat/regroup point

That should cover it.

I have one of the fingers in my hand raised above the others... I bet you can guess which one it is! :hyper:

You had your chance to join in on the fun and you missed it chip...

Git on out of here! :grumpy:

Chizip is not coming to Detroit...

And I updated the picture up top to reflect the Post's location

who would have ever though you'd need to use satellite imagery to help plan for a u2 show?

its like you guys are planning a top secret mission or something

:grumpy:

Show's how little you know about the Palace... it's seriously in the middle of freaking nowhere and they threatened to call the cops on campers

I'm thinking I'm just gonna say screw it and show up at whatever time they say is allowed. If it stays at 2:00p, then I'm showing up at 2:00p. I'm stressed out enough just by the pure and simple fact of being surrounded by a ginormous amount of people, let alone everything else. :crack:

If we form a line five blocks down are they not going to let us in?

Elevation Vegas we lined up across the street and when they opened the lot we, very orderly and nicely, walked over and got in line like the nice U2 fans we were.

We just need to find the place where we can begin our line.

Monica

The problem here is that there is no way for a line to cross a 6 lane highway in an orderly fashion... :(

But again, we'll figure it out!
