France, precisely Dijon for mustard lovers
Oh, please don’t leave me,
It’s time to forget,
All can be forgotten
And has gone away,
Let’s forget the time of misunderstanding
And the time lost trying to figure how,
Let’s forget those hours that killed with their whys
The very heart of happiness
But please, don’t leave me.

I will offer you all the pearls of rain
Coming from the lands where it doesn’t rain,
I will dig the earth till after my death
So as to cover your body with brightness,
I will make a realm where love will be king,
Where love will be law, where you will be queen
But please, don’t leave me.

Oh, please, don’t leave me,
I will make up words,
I will talk nonsense
But you’ll understand,
I will talk about those former lovers
Who have seen their hearts burn again,
I will talk about this king who died
Because you two haven’t met,
But please, don’t leave me.

One has often seen burst again the flame
From the volcano we thought was extinct,
I was told there’s been a land that was burned
That would later yield more than the best fields
And when evening comes, for the dusk to crack,
Don’t the red and the black get reunited?
Oh, please, don’t leave me.

Oh, please, don’t leave me,
I will stop talking, I will stop crying,
I will hide somewhere where I can see you sing,
Where I can see you dance and hear you laughing,
Just let me become the shadow of your shade,
The shadow of your hand, the shadow of your dog
But please, don’t leave me.

Translation of Jacques Brel's 'Ne me quitte pas'.

Yes, it's Jacques Brel most popular song ( it's been covered by Dusty Springfield under the title If you go away ). He was a Belgian singer of last century who inspired and still inspires by his live performance and lyrical talent generations of french-speaking people. You should really check him out.
