Are iTunes downloads included in album sales figures?

And in regular album charts, for that matter?

Since I got myself an iPhone (and thus, by design, iTunes as well) I've been wondering about this. With legal digital downloads seeming to be the future of music sales, surely sales figures and album charts would become more and more inaccurate if digital sales were not included.

Does anyone know more about it? The iTunes FAQ and Google are not much help in answering this question.
