Ah,
I don'tgo by strict hierarchical structure when it comes to certain areas of comparisons in life.
U2 are in my Ultra top pantheon.
Since I'm in the older fan group here.. I had several bands
before U2 that have taken & continue to take me to those sublime places.
The fact that u2 has joined that group is a testament to their talant and vibrancy.
For me
: The Who, Springsteen, The Patti Smith Group, Television.
The Beatles occupy their own special place because how they truely changed music in the USA, then he world, BUT I can't truly site them in my top 5
because they never played live past the screaming teenagers Phase! (And yes i was one of them @ the old
Shea Stadium- tho I was a,tween even
).
If my life hasn't taken such a sharp turn in the mid-90's... I'd might have at least at times have the kind if income to keep up w tech (Sirius, i-tunes etc)see shows my keeping up w music has been less consistent.
if I could be outside of shows in warm weather I did , I do- ThecNational in 2007)
With some NYC or nearby radio still being more open to more independent bands, performers I caught some sonically...
PJ, Foos, AF, the early 00's like the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs, t he Killers etc. Then the mix it up new station went to Sirus; I lost WFUV FM ( Fordan U) when I moved "south"
to Brooklyn. Now hat I'm north again I've refound FUV!
S there are dfinately bands from mid-00's onward that really like at least what I can hear of them.
Summer 14 I caught a,psychedelic band The Temple. Impressed w their live show.
I need to write down more names i hear... Certanly have some floating around in my memory that are newer.
Powers, I love Music!
