The first rule of Fact Club is: you do NOT share opinions in Fact Club.

Maybe Edge decided he wanted to really explore where the piano can take these songs…so there needs to be new mixes laid down

I still wonder about Bono’s comment of someone being injured and rehabbing before they get back on the road

The assumption is Larry since he’s known to have the back problems.

Maybe they don’t want to release the album if the full band cannot be out there to play and promote it ?

I don’t think this album really needs a big U2 blitz of media coverage. There’s not a need for this album, as the songs exist and probably aren’t improved upon

It’d be a major concern if there were any changes to mixes now that the album has been pressed.

Bono’s show is tailor made for a Netflix release. The comments I’m seeing on social media is overwhelmingly gushing and emotional. And seems to get better as it goes.
Maybe they release the album to coincide with such a thing? I’m trying to make sense of it all.

That is the only sensible reason left in my eyes.

A Netflix release with some promotion is a bigger vehicle than a short tour of venues mostly under 3k capacity. The book is the biggest of all, but I can see SOME logic to aligning the album with a Netflix release of a show/doco hybrid.

God I hope not. U2 needs to just put shit out for their fans at this point. Promoting another album release on a major platform is only going to fuel more hate.

I disagree. The general public has a sort characature of who Bono is. I think this show breaks that illusion down and humanizes him in a way that no album release or tour can do.
IF they were to do it and put SOS out at the same time, I think it not only is a cool thing for fans, but so many that have been fans over decades will see a completely different side of him and the band. I would call it the second step after the JT30 tour in solidifying a legacy.

Has Bono ever presented a big award at the Grammys? I imagine he'd get a pretty big response from the crowd if he came out for Album of the Year, or perhaps more in keeping with this memoir, Song of the Year.

Or maybe they could just have him perform a song with a brief introduction/snippet from his show, as he did on Colbert. It might be pretty mellow for that crowd, but there are usually ballads performed, and the shape his voice is in right now is very impressive.

Either way, it's a PR opportunity.

That's been a common theme in most of the reviews I've read, particularly in the mainstream press (regardless of their political leanings), that the book and show could well make you change your views of him .

They'd be mad not to build on all of this positive PR - there's the Letterman show and Marc Maron podcast to come too, so maybe it is just all building to a release of one of the shows and the album.

He hasn't said anything more but he usually doesn't mention upcoming guests. His interview could be delayed by commitments Maron made to guests to drop their talks at a specific time, or they could be holding it back until the Kennedy Centre thing or the release of SOS. Who knows! Hopefully it happened, but interviews have fallen through before.

Maron didn’t mention next week’s guests at the end of today’s episode so we’ll have to wait until Sunday to find out if Bono’s on next week.

The person behind U2songs is reporting on another forum that there may still be a radio single, albeit released the same time as a surprise album launch.

What's cool is that, in addition to Streets, Moment of Surrender has also apparently been sent out to DJs for remixes.

I think this lends credence to the idea that what we've heard in the audiobook isn't reflective of what we'll hear on SoS (no way the audiobook versions of Streets or MoS would be radio singles).

Also, if they're considering it as a single, I imagine they've put a lot of effort into the new version of MoS, which really interests me. It's possibly my favourite U2 track of the 00s, and I love the idea of them having another go at it. Bono also said recently that it should've been the lead single from NLOTH, so maybe they'll try to 'redeem' it with SoS.

Nice! Wonder if we're still on par for this year or not.

The guy from u2songs has said on u2start it won’t be out this year. (u2wanderer1 is his username on u2start for anyone looking).

I’m still hopeful we get a single next month with preorders for the album coming out in January.

Yeah, they're pretty firm it will be next year unfortunately.

... The good news is, there's not that long until next year anymore . Hopefully we're looking at Jan/Feb more than April/may...

I don’t know if an announcement this year has been ruled out though for pre order and then shipping next year. That would need to be clarified with u2songs if it’s just the release as opposed to announcement that’s definitely next year.

It's possible I suppose! I feel at this point it's a case of whether the announcement/single for SoS is preferred off the back of Bono's book tour and the Kennedy Honours event, or alongside the Vegas Sphere announcement next year.

I think there’s a clue on u2songs Twitter about a possible reason for the delay. They’ve mentioned paris tonight being the 2nd to last ‘announced show’. I’m guessing more stories of surrender dates are on the way and the album not out until it’s done with.

Songs of Songs, Books & Fat Puns - New Album Discussion #8

U2songs Facebook post about tonight’s Paris show also says “Just one more show before the end of the currently announced shows”

And then if you click on the link for the review they state that further tour dates have been discussed for the new year but obviously nothing has been announced yet.
