SOI is much more consistant than NLOTH.
I get more pleasure listening to SOI, however, songs like NLOTH, MOS and mostly FEZ are top notch. NLOTH the album has a few week tracks, SOI doesn't, beside SFS. SOI has also 2 of my favourite U2 songs of the last 20 years, Iris and The Troubles....

All in all, to me SOI > NLOTH

I do agree with this. In fact, I like pretending that The Troubles is the closer for NLOTH. Cedars is an interesting concept but it just doesn't make for that good of a song, in my opinion.

Yep. Actual music and melody helps, imo... you know, being a "music" fan and all.

I think NLOTH is under-rated and still enjoy it although there's a couple of clunkers on there... SOI though is a much better all round album I think - every time I listen to it, its energy and songs just pop and sound great to my ears.

At the moment, for me, its the best album they've done since Pop.

SOI is a very average album, let's be honest here.

Let's be honest SOI is a great album. EBW and the Troubles are up with their best songs ever. Iris and Cedarwood Road are great too. SFS, TIWYCRMN and the Miracle are average u2, which means fine songs! The rest of the album is better than average u2.

BUT we are talking about personal taste.... you can't argue about personal taste. You're a Lucky person if the new album fits in your personal taste.

I have mixed emotions about both albums, so I try to be honest with myself. I think NLOTH had the best tracks (MOS, No Line), but I felt SOI had the stronger lyrics and thematic ties.

I'm with the many who felt NLOTH lost the plot a bit in the middle and that the original album with Winter and no SUC would have been stronger, if a bit darker and quieter. SOI leans back to the up-lifting stuff of ATYCLB, but with a very strong theme. My main problem with it is that a lot of the structures and roots of the songs are quite generic. It has some very good moments, but nothing mind-blowing.

Full disclosure though: My favourite and least favourite from each album (in that order) are MOS/No line (tie) and Crazy Tonight. And on SOI, it's The Troubles and California.

I'm not too worried about that. There are very few songs that I truly dislike. So I should be fine :) Just looking forward to new music :applaud:

I'm calling it now, that song from the beach clip will get some serious airplay on radio stations (at least here in the U.S.).

I think that if they released it in the summer time (June/July/August), it would have gotten even more airtime.

I think they've got some sort of deal with iheartradio. In exchange for crazy amounts of airplay, they'll play the festival, and maybe SOE is released exclusively on the iheartradio app (their Spotify-like streaming service) for the first few weeks or something.

wheelin' and dealin' their way into the charts

Nice story brah

I'm confused, do you think this is a rare opinion or something?

i was listening to 93.1 (pioneer valley, mass), and I heard the last 5-10 seconds of an ad for... something, it was food, not the i heart radio festival, but still haven't found... was in the background.

93.1 is an iHeartRadio station.

well, that certainly is a subtle start to the campaign engine.

Well ... concerning NLOTH the album ... if they had the balls to stick to the FEZ Sessions and release an "eclectic" album , that would have been great.

NLOTH has some great moments but that's all.

I guess what I miss in the last ... ?? 4 U2 longplayers is intensity... there are good songs here and there , I can listen to SOI with some degree of enjoyment .. but it does not really take me there, not even to a place called Vertigo.

That just achieved the 90's records ... and maybe TUF

Haha. Just satirically playing along with the comparison game.

If you couldn't tell the sarcasm in that post, you would have to be dumb as a rock. haha.

SOI hasn't aged well for me at all. Haven't listened to it in ages and have no real desire to hear it again any time soon. California and Reach are the only songs that have had any sticking power with me. I hope that SOE will be better.
Fez, MOS, NLOTH, WAS, Magnificent are all far better than a majority of the album IMO.

Ok, so this thread will be done soon. Is the next thread the one where we actually hear the actual first single, not just some beach clip?:hmm:

Seems there is a good chance of a 'single' being released around the time of the I  Radio (Friday 09/23/16) and/or Sales Force/Dreamforce (Wednesday 10/05/16) shows.

I guess we'll have to wait and see. :hyper:

My guess is either August 26th or September 9th. I can't see them playing a new song cold like that... Unless it really is an unveiling, and it would kick off a big iheartradio on-air push after...

I've been on vacation on the jersey shore this week and we've had Q104.3 on most of the time, which is rock from the 80's and 90's for the most part. I guess it's iHeart radio since they've been pumping ads several times an hour for this event, with U2 as the main pitch- including clips of Bono saying it'll be "something you've never heard before".
