Invisible Discussion Thread II (Do not post song requests - discussion only!)

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.

Although it's not an elegant line, I didn't think that it was out of place. I know we are all allowed to interpret meaning differently, but I hear Invisible as a song from the point of view of someone isolating himself to sort of move on, to the point that that isolation becomes invisibility. Its what people do after hitting a brick wall in a certain environment and no amount of love or kind words or family feeling can set it right. That leads to internalising thoughts and feelings and in a way becoming self-sufficient as far as emotional needs are concerned. Seen in that light, 'only us' does fit IMO.
On a shallower level, I find resonance of the sentiment in what sports stars often say and what is often derided as trite. Before a game they often say things like we are not worried about the opposition, we are focused on what we need to do. Although it is a cliche there is a basis to it. In the quest for self improvement it is always essential to look within and not worry about the bastards grinding you down. A lot of Invisible sounds to me to be a yearning for self improvement, to come into visibility. So while I think it could have been expressed better (dont hate it as it is) I dont think it is conceptually out of whack

Great, finally a release date for the video  Can't wait to see it.

Btw, I like how it says "Invisible. Visible".

And no, I don't think the album is coming out next week.

Random, but still -

Invisible is the current number 1 in the Portuguese iTunes charts and Ordinary Love is also in the Top 10. Portugal rocks

I can't stand most of the songs on that list. I really don't like Avici and Pharrell, they are played to death by radio. Those songs just don't appeal to me at all. It makes me almost embarrassed to see U2 among all of these songs, but at the same time kind of proud.

However, Royals is

Oh stifle it. Both the rules of the forum and the generally accepted practice mandate that posters join already ongoing discussions of an exact/ highly similar nature before starting new ones of their own.

Those already ongoing shitfests become shitfests because noone has anything worthwhile to say. If you actually do have something worthwhile to say, you can pitch it and help turn said shitfest around.

There's even an entire section entitled Its a Musical Journey, where ostensibly posters have protracted discussions about the deeper meanings if U2's lyrics, if that's their bag.

But no, you just want your own little thread in the wrong section and all the attention you'll get, just because you said so. That's not how it works.

BTW, your shitfest argument makes no sense as this is in the right forum. After all, this is the only song we have that we know for sure will be on the new album...It's not like I'm asking about Cartoon World or something.

Just as winning a Grammy doesn't automatically make a song/artist good, neither does winning a Grammy make them bad.

Lorde is pretty awesome.

It feels totally out of place to me and a crappy sort of way of winding the song down. And that line doesn't feel like it's in line with with the rest of the lyrics.

Since we're talking about lyrics, I will also say that the second verse feels pretty vacuous too. I dont dream, and I don't think about you, but when I start to think about you, I do. Ooookay. Just feels like filler.

And on the note of forum topics, I will give my 2 cents and say that it's better in my opinion to have smaller threads about individual, specific topics rather than one massive thread about the song in general, which then degenerates into flame wars or a vessel for all kinds of irrelevant sub-chatter amongst forum uber-regulars, where most attempts at meaningful discussion are lost to the ether.

I've heard the song now numerous times and must admit it is getting better and better with every listen. Its actually quite a catchy tune. Very impressed with the band. I just hope other songs on the album have a similar vibe and freshness to them.
