Yeah as much as I hate the Bombers because a mate of mine who supports them is such a fucking wanker about it, I hope it isn't too serious.

There is not a shred of doubt this runs deeper than the Bombers.

A colleague of mine at work is a Collingwood fan and he's pretty much shitting himself, looking over his shoulder hoping this doesn't affect the Pies. His first remark the other day as the news broke was "if Essendon are doing it, we probably are too!"

Ax it might comfort you to have a listen to this - SEN SportSENtral > Audio. Spike McVeigh very emphatic it's all a storm in a teacup.

God I hope his account is true.

And wow, his slagging of Reimers!

There are sports teams I would wish this sort of calamity on. Absolutely. I'm not even going to pretend otherwise.

But not Essendon.

I wouldn't even wish a competition ban on Collingwood, and it's safe to say I dislike them more than the Wallabies or any Auckland team these days. (OK, maybe not Auckland. FUCK AUCKLAND.) You need somebody to hate, somebody's finals success to dread. Sport's not sport without an arch-rival or two.

And yeah, I wasn't going to say anything, but inte's blind hatred of certain clubs (Essendon and St Kilda jump to mind immediately) is so irrational that it leads him into bizarre, over-the-top outbursts like his latest comments about the Bombers. I constantly find it surprising that a guy who can be so measured and make such interesting comments about some clubs loses all sense of proportion, reason, or civility when it comes to others.

Not to mention anything related to Karmichael Hunt, Gold Coast and Greater Western Sydney.

Similarly, I'm much like this when it comes to Bernard Tomic.

Well at least Inte likes his own team. The Crows get 10 points behind halfway through the first quarter and you call for the coach's head!

This is disturbing, but not all that surprising. Curious to exactly what extent all the muck will be uncovered.

Full season ban would be completely ridiculous.

That was only in 2009/2010/2011/non Sanderson years! :shh:

ADELAIDE WlLL NEVER WIN A PREMIERSHIP EVER IT'S JUST NOT POSSIBLE 1997 AND 1998 NEVER HAPPENED!!!!!!

I suppose it was inevitable that this has all come out in the wake of what we've learned about widespread drug use in cycling. If one professional sport is riddled with it, why not others? If one team was engaging in possibly dodgy activity, why not others? I won't be surprised now if all or most teams are investigated and individuals scrutinised.

Incidentally, is there any connection between these supplements allegedly being given out at Essendon, and all those soft-tissue injuries? Could one have led to the other, and which way around?

(Clearly whatever Buddy's been taking has inconsistency as a major side-effect, lol.)

Just a bit sad to see inte overjoyed in regards to these events.

It's not joy, it's common sense..

It is a better solution than to have a team play for no reason (ie. Storm) ... And if they were still tanked up in some way, they shouldn't be allowed to even grace the field.

A one year suspension from a competition is tidy and allows for rejuvenation and time to clean away all remnants of the bad period. Better than subtracting points (punishments in European football leagues) or playing for nothing (Melbourne Storm).

Playing for nothing was ridiculous, I agree, but Essendon gets banned (which won't happen) and a lot of my passion for the sport probably disappears. It will descend into farce.

Seems so. Caro said tonight Dean Robinson had a much more involved role at Essendon, and my athlete housemate says gaining all that weight/muscle in such a short time was always going to end in tears.

Also, how fucking predictable that tonight's one episode of Footy Classified should lead to "Caro should get back in the kitchen" and "I don't support violence against women but I'd hit Caro" comments

It's hard to know what's what at the moment, but I got the impression that at least some of the "supplements" were sourced in response to the injury crisis. In that case, judging by Essendon's performance and continued injuries in the second half of the season, I'd say we were less "tanked up" and more "tanked down".

If we are still "tanked down" now, we should be given some handicap premiership points before the season's even begun to acknowledge just how fucked we are.

As bad as 'I'm not racist but I wish the boat people got turned back.'

One of the most annoying things about all this is that there is nothing more snoozingly dull than Drugs in Sport as an issue. All scientific mumbo jumbo that sport scientists and fitness specialists understand, while we just have to put up with hearing about it until the investigation ends. Hope this thing gets all sorted soon, so we can concentrate on what happens on the sporting field.

Freo won't be happy about this tidbit: Dockers sponsor fined $3 million for unlawful imports

I also find it interesting that none of the Fairfax articles about Essendon mention McVeigh's comments, but keep talking about "confirmed" reports from unnamed Bombers that, to at least some degree, contradict what he said. I'd love to know who's telling the truth.

The only thing that can probably save Essendon from the media is if an AFL player openly admits to being gay.

#notthatthereisanythingwrongwiththat

Now one of my favourite non-Essendon players, Trent Croad, has been linked to peptides (supplying, post-career, not using during his career, but still). :(

Not that I or anyone gives a remote fuck, but the Bombers smashed the Bulldogs, Collingwood beat the Bulldogs and just pipped Essendon in the NAB Cup tonight. Apparently Brendon "Too Old And Over The Hill And Why The Fuck Did We Recruit Him" Goddard was the standout.
