Bono interview in Australian Press - Danger Mouse

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that follows U2.
If you have answers, please help by responding to the unanswered posts.
oh God I hope not!

I guess I wish everyone well that's involved with Spidey, and that it's somewhat of a success for them, but I have absolutely ZERO interest in it. In my eyes, it's a distraction. They could be writing songs tailor-made for ME instead!!! (joke) But I really have no interest. Anyone else feel kinda the same?

Spidey doesnt look like ever happening so itll probably turnout into a U2 project in the end.

Someone get on the live chat, and grill DM about the project:

How close to wrapped is it?
Is there a genuine feeling it will be released soon ( next 6 months)?
What sort of mood is it?
All new songs, or EBW etc?

We should get you to do the interview. You have all the best questions.

there was an article on DM in The Guardian on Monday which mentioned that there's something with U2 "in the works right now"

Danger Mouse and Daniele Luppi: how we built Rome | Music | guardian.co.uk

Nobody has ever accused Danger Mouse, aka Brian Burton, of being workshy. Since 2005's The Grey Album, his widely lauded hybrid of the Beatles and Jay-Z, the maverick producer has defined creative restlessness. There was Gnarls Barkley, with Cee-Lo Green, which spawned the multimillion-selling Crazy and two albums, 2006's St Elsewhere and 2008's The Odd Couple. There was production work, for Gorillaz, the Rapture, Beck, and – in the works right now – U2.

Well if there is a single released in November, it will be very interesting to see which song they choose. Out of the songs we've heard, I would have to think the first single would be Glastonbury, North Star, or Mercy. I think any of them would be a good choice. Glastonbury fits the mold of other songs they've chosen as lead singles such as Boots and Vertigo. But it would be nice to see them mix things up and release a more ballad-type song as Mercy or North Star as the first single.

if something was coming this month i'm sure we'd have heard it already.

frankly at this point i think they'd be better off waiting until early january, as many radio stations in the states go into full on christmas music mode once thanksgiving hits.

I'm going to try and get a U2 question into that DM live chat, but I'm going to try and word it such that it relates to project in question. I don't want to come off as a u2-fanboy..

incidentally, I work for a not-for-profit. I'm at work right now. people's charity dollars go toward me wasting time on this band

Everything on this list needs to be asked and answered in the live chat. Seriously, great questions.

Totally worth it.
EDIT: Just asked the "all new songs" question on the NPR site. Fingers crossed that it gets answered! :hyper:

the interviewer made it clear that they will answer submitted questions with respect to "Rome" only.. (DM's new project)

so I doubt we'll get explicit answers to:

How close to wrapped is it?
Is there a genuine feeling it will be released soon ( next 6 months)?
What sort of mood is it?
All new songs, or EBW etc?
I'm going to ask if DM's work on Rome has influenced his other current projects,ie U2...

they're avoiding the U2 questions like the plague..

EDIT: interview is over, nothing about U2.. :sigh:

he might not be allowed to talk about the U2 album..

or, he maybe he only wanted to discuss that which he was there to discuss

FIRST LISTEN: 2011'S SUPERSTAR ALBUMS

U2: Title TBD
DUE OUT: Before May

Of the three records U2 have in the works, it's looking like the Danger Mouse-produced rock LP will come first. "The songs are more airborne, more light-footed," Bono says. "This could be our heyday."
Fingers crossed....

Didn't somebody say that a preview by Rolling Stone or Q would be the first sign that a new album was actually happening? "Before May" is a bit vague, but it's still better than nothing...fingers crossed, indeed.
EDIT: So, judging by the preview, it's sounding like the Danger Mouse project is the "rock album" they were talking about before the producer announcement and not a reworked SOA. Could be interesting...

Hopefully it'll be another March release so fans have a time to get to know the music before they hit the US..

Ooh, thanks for the news, and for trying with the DM interview! Exciting.

I can't find the album reference on either atu2.com or Rolling Stone. Which part of the site was it posted in?

eta - "airborne" and "light-footed" don't really sound like descriptions of a "rock" album, unless he means in a soaring way? That said, I've learned not to put a lot of stock into Bono's descriptions, over the years. So yeah.

Ha, seriously. "punk rock from venus" comes to mind.

Uh-huh, sure. Whatever you say, Bono.
